Today, rFactor 2 receives its latest update. A smaller refresh than previous rFactor 2 overhauls, this version 1.47 mainly focuses on the BMW M2 CS racer. This little club racing coupe often seen bombing around the Nordschleife in NLS ( formerly VLN) events gets a full overhaul today.

Alongside the refresh patch notes, Studio 397 hints that players will soon get the chance to claim this car for free. Elsewhere, the title’s historic F1 cars see some minor tweaks to level the playing field.

Refreshed BMW M2 CS

As aforementioned, the majority of the rF2 version 1.47 changelog focuses on the BMW M2 CS. In the game since 2019, this little model is popular among online racing communities for its close competition. Much like in real life, it is an easy to drive car that gives off a good toe, perfect for pack racing.

However, released nearly four years ago, it does not benefit from the developer’s more recent content quality. Therefore, those that enjoy driving this model will appreciate the time developers have put into elevating it.

The first major improvement to the car comes to its tyre model. In fact, more recent rF2 cars utilise a more stable model allowing for improved grip in longer turns. The car should no longer lose grip through sections like the Nürburgring Stadium section. This revamp also brings in electronic aid optimisation and gearbox electronic tweaks, for both easier and safer downshifts.

Visually, the car should look more realistic with additional animations coming to the M2 CS in rFactor 2. The cockpit will appear closer in quality to the likes of the BTCC racers. In addition, a collection of new liveries will be available to race from the get-go.

Aside from the substantial overhaul, rFactor 2 fans will be excited for what Studio 397 has to offer soon. In fact, the team behind this game hints that those that don’t yet own the car will be able to get their hands on it for free soon. Saying, “there will be an opportunity for users,” it seems a competition of some sorts is inbound.

With Le Mans Ultimate’s online Race Control feature being developed on rF2, could this be the sign of greater online organisation by the devs? Time will tell.

yeah that's a fair point.

But same thing happened with Elite Dangerous when DLC that was previously paid for became available to everyone after the next big update. I got my money's worth out of what I bought....which is the only thing that counts really.
Agreed, and I'm not complaining. I bought the car back at release, dodn't use it much because I didn't like it, but that's on me. Now it gets updated, and I don't actually lose anything, so it's fine.

World of Warcraft does the same thing, if you buy the base game it includes all expansions except the latest.

Everytime that I look in the multiplayer server list there are almost zero racers. For me as a non League online racer; rF2 is dead already sadly enough. And the one time in the few weeks that I'm able to find a lobby it's a 3 hour practice with 3 drivers in them or a modded server with content that looks and plays terrible compared to the original content. So yes he's right.
Ok, maybe for multiplayer, but more racing sims have that problem I think? Are they all ‘dead’ because of that? I only race offline and there is still enough excellent content to race in rF2, AI has made big steps over the last year and even some great mods have been released lately.

I don't like to drive with TC on in sims:)
I also attend to trackdays and driftdays with those cars in real life. You don't fool me by saying the real life CS Racing is just as oversteery on power as the rF2 one. It just cannot be on those slicks and less power(365/450HP compared to my 550 bhp....) Just by looking at throttle alone makes it oversteer in rF2 in 3rd gear. I don't get that sorry.

Cheers

Please correct me if I am wrong , but I suspect your daily car - as you say it - isn't a purpose built racecar like the rF2 M2 CS Racing. I suspect you aren't driving with a rollcage and no seats to work every day. Again, a purpose built race car is a different story compared to a roadcar where - eventhough it's a sportscar - the focus is not on performance but driving comfort and safety. Slicks and bhp alone don't make you car under or oversteer and there is a reason why the car features a TC system. It's the racing version and not the roadcar. The weight difference and different setups will propably have a higher impact than we think without seat of pants feeling and TC off. I am not saying you are wrong or miscredit your experience with your own car, but I think you need to keep in mind that there are still differences between the two cars that without a doubt will have an impact on handling.

I understand what you're trying to say but I know I know I know.....pffff.....And of course the slicks should make that car way more sticky than my car! That you should understand. But it does not.... And with even less BHP than my car...
All the things you're saying above: I have been thinking about since 2019 when Studio 397 released the M2 CS Racing in rF2.....

M2 CS Racing/Cupcar has way more in common with its streetversion than you might think in real life....

I just want a stickier rear end on that car , less power oversteer. Even looking at the throttle in 3rd gear at 40kmh/h will result in oversteer. Come on. Impossible....
There needs to be a bigger threshold with grip/traction------->slip of the rear tyres, also throttle modulation is a thingy with this car in rF2. I 'm not the biggest ACC fan, but the M2 Cup in ACC is 'spot on' in my book....

Cheers

Oh great to see it will be free!
umm S397 i have the same credit card, you can give my money back there, thanks!
Ah, you just purchased it last month?;) I bought this car when it was released and have been using it regularly since. If S397 now decides to make it a free car for everyone, I can only applaud S397.

I've always liked this car, but now with this update (and after some thurough testing) its matured into one of my favorite drives in sim racing!

The ABS effect through the FFB on this car always felt exadgerated and intrusive to the driving experience. Now its much more subtle and feels spot on, like real ABS!

The suspension was another thing, when it first came it it was rock solid and the car had a bouncing problem, I remember that got patched a long, long time ago, but even then it still felt a bit off, now its pretty much perfect! (You can really see it working well over the kerbs @ Knockhill at 10:19 in the video below)

The new tires are great! They feel even better especially in terms of grip though the longer corners but... You can still have fun with it and get it sideways if you so wish! (example of this at 25:57 in video)

There was nothing in the update notes about A.I. for this car, however something seems to have changed, for the better! As I said I've always liked this car, but I could rarely enjoy offline racing with it against the A.I. because they were just too slow for this particular vehicle, so I've not driven it in quite some time!
I don't know if the the A.I. have improved due to recent A.I. updates, or if its a knock on effect from updateing the tires, but whatever it is they are now really competitive even with the skill as low as 95 at some tracks. Im so happy I can now enjoy a decent race with this car wether on or offline, so well done to the devs, you've made my day!

All the other updates to it are great to, but these are the stand out points for me!

Bravo S397!

Would you recommend some RF2 good car mods? Most of them I downloaded are ugly, mainly the cars cockpits which remind me the most half-baked rF1 old mods. Even official S397 GT3 are really bad in cockpit view.

You can use the collections feature of the Steam Workshop. There are some great collections listing best quality mods and it will makes subscribing and installing them easy.

You can als check the number of stars a mod has received and read the comments on the mod, what other people think of it.

The most recent I installed are BTCC 90'S mods from Cyril Cherry.
