Today, rFactor 2 receives its latest update. A smaller refresh than previous rFactor 2 overhauls, this version 1.47 mainly focuses on the BMW M2 CS racer. This little club racing coupe often seen bombing around the Nordschleife in NLS ( formerly VLN) events gets a full overhaul today.

Alongside the refresh patch notes, Studio 397 hints that players will soon get the chance to claim this car for free. Elsewhere, the title’s historic F1 cars see some minor tweaks to level the playing field.

Refreshed BMW M2 CS

As aforementioned, the majority of the rF2 version 1.47 changelog focuses on the BMW M2 CS. In the game since 2019, this little model is popular among online racing communities for its close competition. Much like in real life, it is an easy to drive car that gives off a good toe, perfect for pack racing.

However, released nearly four years ago, it does not benefit from the developer’s more recent content quality. Therefore, those that enjoy driving this model will appreciate the time developers have put into elevating it.

The first major improvement to the car comes to its tyre model. In fact, more recent rF2 cars utilise a more stable model allowing for improved grip in longer turns. The car should no longer lose grip through sections like the Nürburgring Stadium section. This revamp also brings in electronic aid optimisation and gearbox electronic tweaks, for both easier and safer downshifts.

Visually, the car should look more realistic with additional animations coming to the M2 CS in rFactor 2. The cockpit will appear closer in quality to the likes of the BTCC racers. In addition, a collection of new liveries will be available to race from the get-go.

Aside from the substantial overhaul, rFactor 2 fans will be excited for what Studio 397 has to offer soon. In fact, the team behind this game hints that those that don’t yet own the car will be able to get their hands on it for free soon. Saying, “there will be an opportunity for users,” it seems a competition of some sorts is inbound.

With Le Mans Ultimate’s online Race Control feature being developed on rF2, could this be the sign of greater online organisation by the devs? Time will tell.

Last time I checked it had terrible vibrations when braking, which on my SC2 was immersion breaking. I haven’t drove it for last couple years for that reason.

I actually drove this car in rF2 the other day, after not touching it for a year or so. It didn't feel nearly as good as I remember. For me it was one of the best cars in the game before S397 started cranking out the latest awesome content. Glad it's getting an update

The last breath of a dying game.
Why? Do you have problems stating it up on your system? But serious… it is very understandable that S397 is focussing on another game at the moment, being such a small studio. rF2 will do fine in the meanwhile. Why is a game dead when there are almost no more updates? Look at AC… when did KS stop updating that game? And it is still very much alive!

Everytime that I look in the multiplayer server list there are almost zero racers. For me as a non League online racer; rF2 is dead already sadly enough. And the one time in the few weeks that I'm able to find a lobby it's a 3 hour practice with 3 drivers in them or a modded server with content that looks and plays terrible compared to the original content. So yes he's right.

Here is the thing, online numbers do not matter.
If what I read on steam figures as many people have brought rF2 as AMS2, 200+K each title ?
Obviously AMS2 will sell more from here on in.
Point is that's between 200 to 400k and how many are online ?
I tell you absolutely insignificant number which is why it doesn't matter.
Like I know it's sad for both titles but bringing it up every thread is just broken record.

imho offline no sim can match it for mine, obviously not all combos and conditions work, this is one thing makes rF2 dynamic for me as most combos in other sims AI are more robotic AI can drive any track as good as the next , to me that is boring and not as real life.

Have been doing longer races with Woochoo's '67 Endurance cars and Brianza Historic edition using new 1000km layout, full detail 60 cars, multi class , 3440 res with easy 100fps gsync limit.
1+ hour races absolutely brilliant.

Doing hour race with same combo in a open server would be a disaster.

I tried out the BMW at Sebring, didn't notice that much difference in FFB part, still a bit too light for my taste when compared to other cars. Skins could have more variety, even fake logos would be better than just same paint pattern in different colors.
On a different note, the Sebring detail is mindblowing - tents, cars, RVs, power lines... I turned on iRacing, and made sure it's on maximum detail setting, and it still wasn't even half of the track detail as rF2 version. Really, hats off to S397 artists, Sebring still is for me the best track in sim racing.

Why are people still using the MP browser, when there is LFM? Next to the fact that race control will propably make it's way to rF2 I see no reason why people aren't using th easiest possible solutions.

I always found rF2's M2 CS (Clubsport) way too oversteery on power even 3rd gear or sometimes even in 4th...though the ABS now isn't as intrusive as before the update the car is still way too oversteery on power. I have the highest rearwing, cannot change the rear bumpstop to soften and cannot lower the rear ride hight in setups. I love the car but it's way too oversteery. (My real life car is a M2 Comp with 550BHP/700Nm on Pilot PS4S and it is'nt as oversteery irl lol, and yes I do trackdays and driftdays as well....)
Cheers

Is that an issue even with TC? I could also imagine that your daily car has a different setup compared to the CS version in rF2, wich is a race car.

Is this with the new version? I suspect the same setup limitations exist, but to be sure, give the new car a try and let us know your opinion.

I don't like to drive with TC on in sims:)
I also attend to trackdays and driftdays with those cars in real life. You don't fool me by saying the real life CS Racing is just as oversteery on power as the rF2 one. It just cannot be on those slicks and less power(365/450HP compared to my 550 bhp....) Just by looking at throttle alone makes it oversteer in rF2 in 3rd gear. I don't get that sorry.

Unless you already paid for it :D

I've been condensing my rF2 installation down to a BTCC sim ever since the BTCC pack was released, but I'll need to give the M2 CS a go. I quite liked it in ACC, curious to see how it handles in rF2.
yeah that's a fair point.

But same thing happened with Elite Dangerous when DLC that was previously paid for became available to everyone after the next big update. I got my money's worth out of what I bought....which is the only thing that counts really.
