a car with immatriculation plates on the race track .... in a BPR sportscar race..... yes, the 90s where wild and free. Amateurs had a good chance to join races with professionals. A format which we still see today in the German RCN or VLN.
A small team of motorsport enthusiasts build around the car owner Flavain Marcais, the Scuderia Pinguini, had been given the chance to start in the new BPR format. The car was a Porsche 944 turbo cup, which was at this point road legal and really used as a daily driver. Some changes had to be made to the car to comply to the safety rule set. Within just a few weeks the preparation was finished and the car showed up at the BPR event, where it was in a field of a lot of professional racers and teams. The car was not transported on a trailer, because it was road legal. The team had nearly no spare parts and only simple tools to do the maintenance jobs. But it started and finished 19th in a field of 40 cars and 28 finishers. What an achievement!
The drivers were Flavien Marcais and Michel Renavand.
The team was encouraged to take on all European BPR races of the season...
