Black Pearl post-processing preset ('Graphics mod') 0.2

Custom filter for a clear, well exposed image compatible to default weathers + previews, AC 1.8.x.

Thought it'd be a good idea to publish my own post-processing preset for people to try.

It incorporates minimal changes for a clearer, brighter image with no further 3rd party tools or changes to the weathers required. It attempts to eliminate issues with 1st/3rd person camera auto-exposure, DoF bleeding, glare and chromatic aberration, and can also give a small performance boost over default presets.

Please keep in mind that this preset makes no changes to the weathers, as such the cloudy weathers have the tendency to not look very good simply because the clouds don't necessarily look good in all situations. For improvements to the clouds alltogether I'd recommend taking a look at this mod:

The Black Pearl post-processing preset works just fine with the mod, however it also comes with its own alternative preset that's worth checking out. Overall together with Content Manager a must-have weather mod that I can't recommend enough.

    The presets:
There are three different custom post-processing presets with v0.2.
    • 0_BlackPearl.ini for the original preset.
    • 0_BlackPearl_Alternative.ini for the same preset with a different, colder colour mixing, as per feedback.
    • 0_BlackPearl_Previews.ini, which is the Alternative preset with exposure optimised for creating previews in dark showrooms. Works perfect with the 'previews' showroom of the ksPreviewBuilder as well as with Content Manager.
    Screenshots:
Some examples of how the presets look at different times in the game (without Good and bad weathers mod) as well as the showroom.

    Changelog:
    • 2016-08-08 - 0.1
    • 2016-08-13 - 0.2, added 0_BlackPearl_Alternative.ini and 0_BlackPearl_Previews.ini
    Installation:
Unpack the downloaded archive and move the .ini files to ...\assettocorsa\system\cfg\ppfilters and select it in-game through the graphics settings or post-processing app.

    Optional:
Recommended settings in ...\Documents\Assetto Corsa\cfg\video.ini (graphics settings).

If your computer can handle it you can change resolution, anti-aliasing, cubemap size, faces per frame, mirror size to higher values to achieve better image quality and clarity. Disabling FXAA will lead to clearer image but also more aliasing, I think with my preset it looks fairly sharp even with FXAA enabled. Supersampling the image through the driver would of course be the preferred method to get the best possible image but that requires good hardware and can lead to issues with Windows display scaling.
Changes to texture filtering, Anisotropic Filtering (AF 16x) via Nvidia driver:
This might only apply to Nvidia users, since I do not own AMD graphics hardware at the moment I cannot check if the settings can similarly be used with AMD drivers or are needed at all. This can result in a major improvement over the native anisotropic texture filtering with no performance impact.
    • Disable Anisotropic Filtering (AF) in the game.
    • Enable the following settings through your driver or the Nvidia Inspector utility:
      https://i.imgur.com/dGsi3mO.png
    • Relevant values for Texture Filtering:
      • AF mode: User defined/Off
      • AF setting: 16x
      • LOD Bias (DX): -1.0000
      • Negative LoD Bias: Clamp or Enabled
      • Quality: High Quality
You can also enable transparency supersampling (anti-aliasing for textures with alpha) through these settings for a much calmer image in movement but keep in mind that this setting is very heavy on performance. In-game FXAA + in-game 2x-4x MSAA + driver 2x Sparse Grid Supersampling (SGSSAA) appear to be a good trade-off between performance and image quality on a GTX 970 and up.

Working on it - I might do an alternative preset with a colder colour balance. Thanks for the feedback!
