F1 2012 What a good braking distance for a hairpin in an F1 car?

F1 2012 The Game (Codemasters)
Braking distance for a hairpin depends on a range of things:
  • Track layout on approach (eg. bumps, is there a slight curve beforehand)
  • Approach speed (depends on gearing of the car and length of straight beforehand)
  • Radius of the corner (if the hairpin is extremely tight, you will want to get your speed down before you turn into the corner)
  • Suspension setup (This can massively affect how your car slows down under braking. See Tune To Win by Carroll Smith)
  • Brake bias (this will affect how long it takes you to slow the car down. Try different bias settings to see what works best. This will change depending on how much fuel you have in the car.)
  • Driving style (if your driving style is smooth, you will probably brake in a straight line, turn in, the accelerate out of the corner in 3 separate parts. If you drive more aggressively, or have proper driving experience, you will realize that this is not the fastest way around a corner. You must brake, turn in and the accelerate in one clean motion).
The best way to determine your braking distance for a corner though (hairpin or not) is to get out on the track and practice, practice, practice. That way you will be able to determine the perfect braking distance for the current conditions.
