Throttle issues with DFP

I have been trying to work on my driving at Watkins Glen, and have discovered that my throttle isn't working the way it should on my throttle pedal. It is almost like having a push button to control the throttle instead of a pedal connected to a rheostat. I have looked at the pedal operation in windows and in the game controller setup and some times I get a decent rate of motion across the travel and other times I end up with a very quick rise from min to max.

I know that replacing the rheostat would probably solve the issue, but is there anything else that can be done fairly easily to attempt to resolve this? I have not opened the rheostat to see if the contacts are messed up or not, but I have blown air into it to see if that helps, but it didn't do much for it.
