F1 2012 Rival System

I'm at the point in my career where I can choose a rival. I have the option for Hamilton, Button, Alonso and Vettel.
What I want to know is, if I beat that rival, do I get a contract offer from the team for his seat or how does it work? I read somewhere that I replace the rival if I beat him.

If I get a offer for his seat that would be disappointing because I would like to race alongside Alonso for example. It would not make much sense if Ferrari would replace him if he is fighting for the title in the current season.

So can anyone explain to me how this works?

Beat rival, take his seat. That's how it usually works. Sorry for that though.

Well, that sucks and doesn't make any sense. If I beat Alonso they would replace Massa.
