RDRC S9 Round 1 - Rally Monte Carlo (1st February - 7th February 2021)

Hello guys,

A power outage occurred when I had just finished stage No3. When the power returned, I was able to complete stage No4 and get to the service area. But it looks like my time for stage 3 was not uploaded :-(. I know there are no restarts allowed, but in a situation like this, is there something I can do to run the third stage again or something ? Thanks

Sadly no. Also, as this is a DNF-time, our results parser(s) will count this as a retired rally. While you may continue to drive to compare the times you get to the others in the rally. It will be counted as a DNF in the results.

I don't really know if I will bother driving the final loop of stages.

(...)

The crash produced some good looking photos, though...

Yes you will! The spirit of the rally, kjør på! :laugh:Your world champion always says "never give up", and his older brother also said "one man's death is another man's bread", so it's not over until it's over - go for it man

Yes it did indeed  always a positive outcome :D

That's actually a Norwegian saying! :p Just looks weird in English though. I think most languages have a version of it as it basically means "One persons loss is another persons gain".

aaah it must be! :) it just sounds very funny when translated like that lol

lmao I'll give you one more :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: the spanish version is

The bread of some is the hunger of others :roflmao: (el pan de unos es el hambre de otros)

Boy am I glad to say I survived the first loop with only a half spin at a hairpin on SS4!... not so glad to say that out of all the drivers that had no issues I was probably the slowest overall on the first loop so far

Nevertheless it was amazing fun and at the same time pretty intense trying to tame the car with what seemed to be the wheel of an old Portuguese caravel with the steering set up at 740 degrees, absolutely loved every second :inlove:

Also tried streaming for the first time; although there isn't much to see in terms of driving skill, you're more than welcome to come along for the next loops and play some mini-games of guessing how many corners I can drive without hitting the wall, or which hairpin will I spin around at. The opportunities are endless :)

Some random spectator even seemed to appreciate it! Or he's just giving me the finger, or even worse, telling me to go faster:

See you all at the overnight service park in (a) one piece (as it might get chilly up there)!

This was definitely not the start I had imagined for my RDRC-2 Debut. Things started off relatively alright on the first stage, taking it a bit slower and making sure to keep the car in one piece. But that was quickly thrown out of the window when an early mistake on SS2 left me with a badly damaged car. And with only a short service coming up, it meant that I had to carry my half-broken Subaru over around 7 stages.

With a good Rally finish out of my sights due to those damages, I shifted my focus onto bringing the car safely through the second part of Day 1, hoping that the car could be fixed well enough to be somewhat competitive on the Power Stage at the end.

Even though it was a very slow Day 1, the car came back into the service for the night, a few of the key components able to be quickly repaired leaving me with a somewhat functional car for Day 2.

Fate would have it that this was also not supposed to stay that way for long, with me losing control over the car on the first stage of Sunday which resulted in the car ending up in the stone wall with a damaged engine and two punctures. And with only one spare tyre with me, it meant having to torture the Subaru through the Sunday stages on 3 wheels.

The damaged engine and gear box dropped my average speed down to around 40 km/h and turned the second Day of the Rally into a relaxing Sunday Drive through the mountains of Monte Carlo.

I at least managed to bring the car back, albeit not in one piece and with a lot of repairs to be done until the Sweden Rally. It can only get better from here on out and here is to hoping that I'll manage to keep the car together in Sweden to actually start competing in the class.

Eh. I'm not sure if the default stuff suits me or not. I just... Never test :p I just drive :)
You're driving the E30, so you already have plenty of power oversteer.

But seriously, I don't really notice much difference from the default setup to a modified one, unless it's done to the extreme, which usually makes it undrivable for me. So I don't see any big point in modifying the defaults much either.

You can always adjust your driving to suit the car, instead of adjusting the car to suit your driving.

For the record: I'm not very fast.

I decided to do the final loop of stages this morning. Had a (too) careful run through ss9 and dropped more time than I usually would through there. From there on I increaed the pace a bit, and was putting in some good stagetimes for being me in the Escort.

I like Monte Carlo, I enjoy driving these stages, but Monte Carlo doesn't like me and I am not fast enough to make up for my mistakes along the way.

But with that the opening round of the season (and the rally I expected the worst result in) is over, It do look like I will finish outside the points when everyone get through their runs. I do need to drive a lot more before the next events, I am one of those who need a lot of seat time to improve my pace. Hopefully Sweden will be better for me :)

The sparks are flying from where they are supposed to be flying this time around :)

I'm proud of how well my first ever championship rally went, it makes the mistake all the more painful. Started off with a clumsy first stage putting me about 50th, but i managed to keep it somewhat clean and what mistakes i did have weren't that big. By SS11 i believed i was on for one magical result. That stage was probably my best one. And then...

One corner catches me out and this time there was no reset.

Ouch, right in the feels... :( don't despair though; as you know, rallying can be painful and seem cruel, but the roads will be waiting for you to come and show what you can achieve. Best of luck for Sweden!

That's Monte! (and the bridges in Argentina)! Good thing the next rally will be kinder when it comes to instant-retirements like that :)

Ah man. Into rally number 2 I went with no practice, sight unseen, with the aim of just finishing. It was all going well until I decided not to fix a puncture near the end of a stage 6 which snowballed... resulted in a slide into a low wall. Massive suspension damage, couldn't steer anymore and intimately terminal suspension failure on stage 8 :(

How long does fixing a puncture take?? i was thinking at the time it's not worth the 5 minutes or whatever it take when i was only a minute from the end of a stage.
