OMG! BENETTON LOST!
EuropePodium.jpg

Keranen takes first non-Benetton victory of the year
Benetton have surprised everyone, including themselves, after starting the season with 4 consecutive 1-2 finishes, and gaining all points possible in the non-sprint races too. This remarkable record was never going to last, and it just had to be at one of the driver's home races that the record was broken. The European Grand Prix was set up at the Nurburgring as a prize for Kederer's championship, and he had an eventful race. While leading, he was being chased by his team mate and Aidan Keranen in the early parts of the race. Buurlage made an ambitious move into turn 1, lost the rear and spun into Kederer. There was just light contact, but the damage was done. Keranen swooped through and never looked back, as Kederer has floor damage from the contact. Buurlage had to pit to repair a puncture and replace his front wing. So Keranen took victory as he looks to get his title campaign on track, Kederer finished second ahead of Andy Black, and Buurlage dropped to 7th by the flag. The Genii driver has always seemed to be an on-off driver, sometimes getting great results, sometimes getting bad ones. He has to be close to a victory now. Xen Foro took a well deserved 4th place. He is another driver who must be close to a victory now. Apex will have to accept 5th and 6th as the best they could do after the disappointment of Monaco. Rinneaho's 8th place meant that McLaren leave the circuit today having actually closed the gap to Benetton, rather than just reducing the distance they pulled away. The 5-way battle between the OMR's, Toyota's and Engberink for 9th place kept the cameras busy. For a 10 lap period in the middle of the race, there always seemed to be at least 2 of them side-by-side. Luckily, they all escaped without contact, as Chant's vast experience helped him win the battle from Utzer, Engberink, Harvey and Wolf respectively. 14th and 15th would seem to be enough of a bad day for Minardi, until Canadian driver Steven Poirier walked away from the team after the race. Dovizioso, Saidy and Herbert missed out on bonus points.

@Aidan Keranen, how pleased are you that it was you who managed to get the first non-Benetton victory?
@kedy89, Benetton still hold second place as their own, and you've now had (including the tests) 15 podiums in a row. When will this stop?
@James Chant, you had a great battle with the guys behind you, glad to have beaten them?

Nah, I was there like 2-3 seconds after the alert appeared
And what exactly tells you that I wasn't? ;)

In my experience such series have a tendency to stop as soon as they're mentioned, be it motorsports, football, or other kinds of sports. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst, kind of.

clearly ecstatic. we were confident that we had the strategy to win today regardless, then the Benetton boys helped us greatly by hitting each other. We'll be looking to win on merit a bit more next time, but right here, right now, who cares, we won. ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Sprint Race
Mountains - Biffy Clyro
We take a trip into the Alps next as we head off towards the Österreichring A1-Ring Red Bull Ring in Austria. Revived in 2010 after 7 years of desertion, the short circuit only really has 7 corners of real meaning, but it doesn't stop it being great fun. Massive elevation change and one of the best views on the calendar mean this is a race to look forward to, not to be thought as 'just another race'. At the last race, Aidan Keranen became the first non-Benetton driver to win a race, but Tobi Kederer still has a massive streak of consecutive podiums he wants to keep up. Will this be the race to break the duck? Hopefully, the moon will stay away from the sun, so we don't get plunged into darkness halfway through the race.
The Red Bull Großer Preis von Österreich is GOGOGO!
