Noob question about setting up a balanced race with the AI.

There are a lot of cars in AC and without a deep knowledge of racing, it’s hard to tell which cars belong in the same race against each other.

For example, would any cars with the tag “GT3” be a plausible match for each other, even though they’re all different year models?

Almost all of the discussion of this question elsewhere is related to ACC.

It would be great if there was a simple chart or something to help newcomers understand which cars belong on a track together.

Honestly, it takes both a solid knowledge of motorsport and a bit of research, and probably a fair bit of trial and error as well. Even just with the default Kunos content, there can be some variability in pace because of a difference of BOP applied to the cars and varying levels of accuracy in their reproduction, or different versions of the car (Le Mans spec vs. high downforce package, etc).

When you add modded cars into the mix, it gets even more difficult. Some modded cars have great, accurate, physics. More accurate than the official content, even. Other mod content just has copied physics from a similar category of vehicle, so it might be sort of comparable but isn't accurate. Other modded cars have wholly garbage physics that are not only inaccurate to the vehicle they're supposed to be, but are just nothing like an actual car at all.

There's a massive chasm of quality in the modded scene, and even in the official content to be frank.

From here, my suggestion would be to list some of the cars you enjoy driving, and some people might be able to give some suggestions on which cars are good opponents for it. You'll still need to figure out what AI settings to use for each group of cars, and for each track, so that they're roughly equal with your pace as well.
