The Lausitzring in East Germany has been taken over by DEKRA, a German technology firm. They will henceforth use the area to conduct testdrives aimed at automated driving systems. At least for the time being, this means there will be no more race events at Lausitzring, which became infamous when Alessandro Zanardi lost his legs there in a horrifying accident. Whoever won the Sunday DTM event there this season will go down in history as the last driver to do so.

It's not decided whether or not there will be no more races at all. But inlikely outright now.

This news even surprised me. Wow.

This can`t be a surprise, oval races are not popular and the track has zero hsitory. But it´s a blow for german motorpsorts, a real good example how industry and politics don`t care about it.

Sad news, but it doesn't say much about oval racing if they plan to drive around it with robots :roflmao:

Weird news. Not to long ago, there were talks of renovation of the oval track. Euro Nascar could've done a race there... oh well.

Sorry, but after CART disappeared its been pretty pointless ever since. A track that size should be running Indycar or (american) nascar. Anything else oval is tiny compared and not nearly enough to warrant its existence.
The road course had more relevance and could be used for many series and trackdays, but that seems to be gone too.
