Here's Laguna Seca from the 70's. The GPL conversion was used as a base only, the track is scratch made.

What are the "shaders" ?

Shadow on the track ?

I'm not sure I know exactly myself It's not related to shadows.
Those new shaders offer new ways to blend textures to make the track look different.
For example, Putnam Park or the Toyota Supra have custom shaders.
