Apps ksEditor counting more vertices than there are in blender

Working on a track; in blender grass mesh is 34k vertices and road is 44k, however when loaded up in ksEditor it crashes and tells me that the grass mesh is 100k+ vertices, the road is 150k vertices and the limit for each is 65k. New to blender and ksEditor. What am I not understanding, and is there a version of ksEditor that can handle more vertices?
 
Any sharp edges create extra vertices, it's just the way fbx handles smoothing. And there'd be no point having kseditor handle more because the kn5 format can't store more, so the game wouldn't see the extras.
