I want to use my G27 shifter with my Thrustmaster T500RS wheel

Long story short, I want to use the G27 shifter.
My G27 wheel is dead (power surge) and I bought the Thrustmaster wheel

I bought a Serial to USB converter from a local store.
The shifter light lights up few times but it does not stay on.
I do not see the device under the device manager and of course none of the games see the shifter.

I understand this is a hack but is it anyway I can save my wallet from 100 dollars from buying a shifter?
