How to improve rFactor 2 using HTC Vive?

Last night I participated inthe 80 minutes of Nordschleife. I had lots of problems with the performance during the entire race.
I'm using 1080ti, i7 8700, 16 GB and all graphics in medium, level 5 of antialiasing and the rest of parameters off or low.
When I practice alone, the game runs fine but yesterday, with 35 cars in the grid, the performance was horrible.

Any tricks to improve it?

reduce graphics especially shadows, edit the player.json to limit visible cars, visible headlights, limit trackside vehicles. VR is demanding and Nords is the largest sim-track around.

After a few tests, I reduced the antialiasing to level 2 and the anisotropic filter to 8x and the fps came back like sheep to their flock.

It's curious how the downgrade from level 5 to level 2 of antialiasing doesn't change the visuals too much (it changes obviosly but it seems to be more difference between none to level 2 than level 2 to 5) but the performance is radically better.
