Congrats on your first win, how tough were the final laps with Ancevski closing in on you?

Extremely tough, made even tougher under pressure for what became my first win! Over the moon with the result. Great result for the team as well as we are looking extremely good in the constructors. Got to thank the team for the amazing call on strategy today, and hopefully this will be the first of many

Utzer on pole

Yet again the German was fastest in the qualifying, beating Tim Engberink by almost 2 tenths. This time both McLarens with strong laps, to put them in 3rd and 5th. Goddard between them in 4th, and all 3 only separated by 2 thousandths of a second. Martins will be looking to score points from 6th. Black again impressing with 7th on the grid, alongside him Andy Graham. Laskey and Mishra complete the top 10.

Goddard back in title fight
With his 2nd win this season the reigning champion has closed down the gap to championship leader Utzer to 7 points. Andy Graham took 2nd place, Rinneaho finished 3rd.
The lead changed right at the start, as Engberink got past Utzer. Laskey got past Graham, however the Jordan driver retook his position the following lap. Kederer got past the 2 Williams and Harvey up to 10th. Utzer continued to drop down the order, seemingly struggling to find grip. As consequence the team decided to pit him earlier than planned, in the hope that fresh tyres would solve the problem.
Engberink was chased down by Laad, however the Brit didn't find a way past. When 3 stoppers Laad and Goddard both went to the pits, Jordan enjoyed a 1-2, with Engberink leading 14s ahead of Graham. That didn't last long though, as in lap 24 Engberink's engine blew up. Graham inherited the lead, until he went in for his 1st stop.
Goddard now had the lead, some 10s ahead of Martins. The McLaren were in 3 and 4. Utzer in 5th after his early stop, with Kederer and Graham right at his back. The 3 stoppers pitted for a 2nd time around the halfway point. Both Utzer and Martins lead for a few laps, before handing it back to Goddard after their stops. The Minardi driver had came out just ahead of Graham. Laad's race came to an end in lap 43, his engine blew up. Rinneaho was running in 3rd, Martins in 4th, Harvey, Cornes, Buurlage and Ancevski in 5th to 8th.
2 stoppers then went in for their final stops, promoting Martins to 2nd and Ancevski to 3rd. When Goddard pitted Martins took the lead for a lap, before he went in as well. Ancevski too going in for a final time, dropping to 8th. He shouldn't bring home any points though, in lap 58 he rolled out with a gearbox failure. At the front Goddard was back in the lead, ahead of Graham and teammate Rinneaho. Martins in 4th, ahead of teammate Utzer. Harvey was up to 6th, Cornes and Buurlage took the final points for 7th and 8th.

FIA Press Conference
@Mane Goddard: Was it crucial to stay ahead of Graham after the 2nd in order to take this win?
@Andy 'Mars Bar' Graham: Where you worried about the reliability of your car when you saw your teammate retiring ahead of you?
@TTupsi: Back on track after a couple of dismal races, didn't look like it after quali though?

Market is open!

@Andy 'Mars Bar' Graham: Where you worried about the reliability of your car when you saw your teammate retiring ahead of you?

Seeing your teammate retire always creates some worry, but you have to keep focused on the task at hand and that's what I did and got a fantastic result from it. Hopefully the guys at the factory can improve the reliability so Tim and I could mount a potential title challenge, both in the drivers and constructors if we can outdevelop Renault and Minardi.
