This news been going around for a couple days. But ATi is officially dead and buried and no more. ATi was dead as soon as AMD took them over and was only a matter of time for the name to vanish, or though Radeon is still staying.

no biggy, was always going to happen. The bit about OEMs not wanting Intel and AMD on the box made me chuckle. Looks like some minor win points for Intel there

I'll miss it. Plus, I never heard of Firepro, and Radeon sounds awful (and it was also the name of a detergent here ), and they are going to keep those and not ATI? Fail.

Get buckled in for some Nvidia freezes. Nvermind, I thought alot of guys were running to ATI because the simbin games jst didnt like Nvidia chips.

Havent had freezes since I dumped my 8800, still running nvida cards though.

FirePro is pretty well known among professional business hardware. Those cards are made to compete with Nvidia's Quadro-cards. Both types are usually based on consumer cards but with some other firmware and drivers they're better for rendering stuff. Also support is much better, usually a broken card will be replaced the same day. That's why prices go up to €4000 or so..
