As part of the end of year best wishes, Studio 397 have dropped yet another hint that the brand new 2019 spec Formula E 'Gen2' car will be arriving in the sim soon.

Having started a relationship with the rapidly expanding FIA Formula E category as part of the $1m Vegas eSport event back in 2016, the ties between Studio 397 and the all electric single seater championship grew yet stronger in 2017 with the first officially licenced Formula E content coming to the popular rFactor 2 racing simulation.

At the time the 'Energize Formula E DLC' contained the original FE car and Hong Kong ePrix location, complete with full liveries of the 2017/18 Formula E championship field, however since then the category have spent much time and effort refining the design of the top tier electric championship car - releasing a potentially much improved 'Gen2' model in time for the current season that began December 15th at the Riyadh Street Circuit in Saudi Arabia.

It appears from a couple of sneak preview images released by Studio 397 in recent times that the new car will indeed be heading to rFactor 2 this year, adding yet another officially licenced category to the simulation, and again offering up a very different driving experience for sim racers to enjoy.

No official word of what the pack will contain, or when it will be made available has been revealed by Studio 397, but judging by the fact the developers are happy to show off the odd preview shot, it is probably fair to say we won't have to wait too long until we have the chance to get our hands on the cars for ourselves.

I am 99% certain it will not be free. Should it be free?
Yes.
I'm starting to get tired of paying for everything when the sim is not finished yet. Is fine they need money to keep going, sure, and until now I bought most of their dlc's but, at the end it will be like Raceroom that you pay every single car... but at least RR is free. I just say, please focus on the UI, online competitions, etc, in other words, just finish the sim to be playable as much as others and then go and add content and DLC's and whatever. I'm not asking much, isn't?

It's not just that, it's that they launch the DLC's without finishing ...

I have bought all the DLCs up to now, but the new GT3 has not yet done so. There are 5 cars and it goes on sale with 4 (although the fifth will be added later), the McLaren copies the sound of the 650 s of the previous DLC, the board of the 911 gives pain, only one skin per car for now ...

Is it not better to put a finished product on sale, even if the release takes a few more weeks?

I'm with you with this one, 397 releases DLC's a little rushed out.
Just sebring was a complete package and totally finished, if i remember.
I like to see totally finished DLCs in the future, however i'll buy them anyway because i know they will fix them asap , but it will damage the 397's reputation.

By the way if you watch IRL onboards, 720s and 650 s are the same soundwise.
And it's not 397's fault that Aston didn't approve the car before the Christmas.

Vote with your wallets guys. You're only hurting yourselves by buying unfinished stuff "to support devs".
By doing that, devs are seeing that they can sell unfinished stuff, and people are happy.

My wallet wants to buy better wheel and pedals and VR (1000+ EUR). For VR I also need new computer (1000+ EUR).
For all of these I need to rearrange my apartment to create space (1000+ EUR).
So few EUR for DLC is insignificant.

Pay for everything? How/why did you pay money for the free DLC S397 released as well?;)

Like many here, I am not really interested in watching Formula E IRL, sound in a sport/race car is for me part of the appeal and the tracks they race on are not inspiring to me either.
But if a well done series, with great physic, so we can have an idea of what it might be like to race those thing, is available, I am in.
I like simulation, even more than ever now with VR, because it allows me to (pseudo) drive all kind of cars, so I am curious to test drive those electric racer.

Not for me. I like the sounds of real engines and I have plenty of choice.
So I won't be encouraging Formula E in any way at all. If I wanted to simulate this rubbish I'd just turn the volume off on another Formula and pretend that I'm pretending.
And before you veganistic save the planet types jump on me......just know that I don't want to save the planet.:whistling:

I'm sure we all like real engines, but the future of consumer cars is electrical. At some point in time it will become nonsensical for car manufacturers to continue development of petrol engines. And without big manufacturers there is no F1.

We all are gonna have to get used to it at some point. Unless Hydrogen has some major breakthrough when it comes to the cost of transportation. How much can be transported, and the feasibility of liquefying or storing it.

Nope, not me. Especially for computer games where I will always have the choice despite what happens in the real world. They will take my petrol engined V4 motorcycle off me over my dead body. Probably.;)

ill never understand some peoples level of disdain for electric race cars. we dont race to listen to the cars, we race to RACE. and race, they can. youll never be at an rc track and here the nitro guys whining about the electric cars and how lame and uninteresting they are. i mean, i can understand liking the sound of gas cars better, i do too, but to bitch about it as much as some people do is borderline psycho.
