FFB - tame extreme peak forces?

I recently got a Fanatec Clubsport 2.5 wheel and I'm trying to set it up for rFactor 2. Problem is, while I can get the FFB to work well most of the time, when crashing and hitting curbs hard the forces are way too strong. I'm seriously worried of damaging the wheel. It's just way too much.

Is there any way to fix this?

Reduce FEI and/or increase vehicle smoothing.

Depending on the track/vehicle combo you'll have to adjust this, but I mostly set FFB Smoothing in game to 4, and FEI to about 80. Also, a lot of cars are clipping so reduce vehicle multiplier (also helps with curbs) to a range between 0.50 - 0.75 (again depending on the vehicle). You can use simhub to check for clipping.
