Controller limitations?

This may be a limitation of controllers in Race 07, but thought I'd ask.
I've recently re-installed Race 07 to enjoy some old memories, and to see how it looks and runs with my more modern PC and peripherals. Everything seems good except for getting my Heusinkveld Seq shifter to be recognised. I have a Fanatec CSW 2.5 wheel, Simworx pedals, and the seq shifter. All is recognised and mappable except for the shifter.
I suspect the problem is because Race 07 can only recognise three controllers. The recognised controllers are keyboard, the CSW 2.5, and the pedals, which takes up the three available slots. If I turn off the wheel, then the shifter and pedals are recognised, which again suggests the limit for Race 07.
I can run the sim by using the paddles for gear change, but I'd love to be able to use the separate shifter, or even my H shifter, but it doesn't seem possible.

Am I correct in assuming this is a limitation within Race 07, or is there something I'm missing?

I solved it by using JoyToKey. Simply mapped the Shifter movements to the keyboard and mapped the key strokes to Shift Up and Down in game.
Great little program, never used it before.
I'm quite impressed with Race 07 using my current rig, the graphics may be a bit tame but the driving experience is very good.
