rFactor 2 to Release World Wide Technology Raceway in Q3

Studio 397 have announced their first content for the 2022 Q3 pack. This Illinois-based oval racetrack may be a sign of what's to come for rFactor in the upcoming months. And the track has even been laser-scanned.

As part of this release, both the oval course and the in-field road course have been scanned and will be released as layouts of one circuit.

About the Circuit

Formerly known as Gateway Motorsports Park, the 1.25 mile (2 km) oval with a 2 mile (3.2 km) infield course, the circuit was built instead of another circuit that existed before then. St. Louis International Raceway was demolished in 1996 to make space for Gateway.

The track has featured both NASCAR Cup Series and IndyCar Series races.

Despite the size of the track, it still features 3 different layouts. Apart from the 2 aforementioned layouts, there is also a shorter infield layout of 1.6 miles (2.6 km).

What This May Mean For rFactor 2

A new oval circuit on the calendar for rFactor 2 is an interesting decision. This could mean the almost decade-old sim is planned to receive a new focus on ovals. For many race fans around the world, having an alternative to iRacing for oval stuff is quite the promise.

This, however, will need a bit of work on the AI too. As this is one of the few points people still have issues with, a DLC requiring AI improvements seems either off or promising.

Off, because if no AI update comes, this circuit would just show and facilitate the "adventurous" AI.

Promising, because one could hope the free update for Q3 would be the long-awaited AI-overhaul.

And on this hopeful bombshell, what do you think about this reveal? Please, let us know in the comments down below!

I think pay modders miss a good thing with rF2
Look at the content they could add to make BTCC better
I would buy all tracks and cars no worries
Crying shame it won't happen

Did you create these series yourself or are they available somewhere (in the Stram Workshop) somehow. So I don’t mean the individual tracks & cars but the overview you have on the left of your screenshot.

No they are rfmods "room mods" made with Mas2 ( look in support/tools )
You can add any content you have in workshop or archives and make "Series" like that in few minutes.
just open Mas2.exe a monkey could do it, just don't select anything in the left hand column only right hand column ( yeah monkey could that lol )
Bonus is you can dictate track layouts and skins you wish to add ;)
So the BTCC rfmod I made I selected 3 skins for 9 cars
So you set 26AI pick your car
I don't care if mods are not historically correct , etc.

Oh forgot after you make mod click on series tab not all cars&tracks and they will appear the same as mine

Forget that ( thinking of old days)
Make mod you will see it below all cars and tracks
You don't see All Cars and Tracks in mine cause I use OVGME
to enable if wanted. lol

Discord. Paul Jeffrey who does the Annoucements said so.
And no, sadly this car is not yet in the pipeline, hopefully one day it will be.
NextGen NASCAR is nearly finished as mentioned directly by the guys who do the Stockcars for S397.
It's not, however, what will be announced today.
We have been told that it's not a Tatuus, nor a NASCAR car.
I am under the impression that it might be a model update to an existing car, like, for instance, the AMG GT3 Evo.
The Bentley and the Audi received updated models for free, back in 2019.

More official BTCC DLC will come, so paid modders would be investing time on something that - in practice - they would not be able to sell.

I would be happy with the Indy Lights too. :) It would fit the scheme.

Not so sure about that. Wouldn't surprise me if MSG have just dropped what assets they had lying from standalone games as RF2 releases

I think this is a good choice for a new track, it complements the modern Indy Car and besides Daytona there hasn't been an official new oval track in a very long time. Should suit the stock cars too (Nascar is racing there this year as well). But, sorry to repeat what has been said so many times, until (IF) the AI gets fixed I probably won't buy it.

I usually am interested in the DLC content S397 has been releasing, but I've stopped buying because it always seems like it's at least partially broken for offline, which is all I do. 8 out of 10 races the AI spin/crash in the same place, pit on lap 2 of a race that can easily be completed in one fuel stint, pull over randomly after a few laps and retire for no reason, and try to kill me in every corner and braking zone. I swear I go out of my way to leave room for them and they either plow into me like I'm not there, or barely touch me and I go spinning off as if I were slammed by an oil tanker. And then, by some miracle, sometimes I'll try the same race with the same settings and it's fantastic - fun, challenging, immersive and I don't even think about the AI. So, IT IS IN THERE! It's just very elusive.

But, that's the problem - it's wildly inconsistent. RF2 is still great to drive, but I'm tired of the fix one thing but break another cycle it's been in for what... almost 10 years? I think I'm going to finally pick up ACC next time it's on sale, maybe something more focused will work better? I know nothing is perfect, and I will always want RF2 to get all of its #### together and be everything it has the potential to be, but I'm putting it on the shelf for a while (again).

Edit: Just to show I'm not a "hater" or biased, after I wrote this I did a Sebring GT3 race weekend vs AI with practice/qual/ 45 minute race and... it was pretty good. Not much wheel-to-wheel racing (I muffed the start) but spent the whole race trying to run down the car ahead and finally got him on the last lap. Not sure how it would have gone mixing it up in traffic or a longer race with pit stops, but it was an enjoyable and fairly tense drive. I watched a bunch of the replay and the AI seemed to behave for the most part. So... I dunno. RF2 can definitely shine when it wants to.

Would just like to point out that MSG has a season update for N21 in the cards for next month that includes updated schedule, tracks & cars.

The Gateway scan probably derived from that. But even then, who knows if that season update will be released. Everything they have on the docket becomes more & more questionable every quarter.
