Rain In iRacing Delayed Until At Least March 2024

Recent speculations unexpectedly got thwarted, as rain in iRacing is delayed. This is according to Executive Producer Greg Hill, who took to the official forums for an update.

The November Dev Update claimed that the implementation of wet weather racing in iRacing was imminent. Indeed, the development process is in an advanced state, but it will not see rain come to the sim with next week’s Season 1 2024 update.

Called ‘Tempest’, the new weather system “is a collection of systems that have their hooks deeply integrated into every area of our codebase, and incorporating all of this into our live service environment requires great care and significant testing“, states Hill. It would seem that as with every feature and content piece, the developers want to avoid releasing it until all problems have been ironed out.

Rain In iRacing Delayed: No Daytona Surprise

Of course, this takes time. Rain in iRacing is delayed as a result. “We are going to really push for a release along with the March build”, says Hill. iRacing also rules out the suggestion of a silent release in time for the 24 Hours of Daytona in January. Hill: “While it might be ‘fun’ to spring it on you unannounced and at 3 am during the Daytona 24, we will spare you from that surprise “.

Meanwhile, Hill also hinted at some of the features in the upcoming Season 1 2024 build. Refined off-track physics, the first part of the oval refresh and the implementation of the New Damage Model on 18 cars are coming, among other things. New content is also expected.

Simbin's GTR2 released in September 2006, it had a rain feature. Realism has been redefined: Authentic physics, dynamic day and weather changes as well as an impressive damage model. It was moddable. Best sim ever and very cheap, was able to buy on dvd.

iRacing released in August 2008, not moddable, no rain. Practically it fits well only for Pro sim race drivers. Payable cars and tracks. Very expensive. Monthly payments. I lost my interest a long time ago.

For me, I could care less about rain (it makes for pretty screenshots) and it's s fun for a few laps per race at most! Until iRacing has FFB/Tyre/Physics matching AC and AMS2, I stay away from it. I'm not a huge online player... I prefer the max amount of immersion/realism. Once they FFB rate goes up to 400hz like AC or AMS2, the driving experience feel a lot closer to real-life (which I have driven many high-end cars around tracks), then I will wait to renew my subscription.

Changeable weather conditions is such a massive thing to get right in any sim... I'm glad to see iRacing taking their time with it... So much money goes into this sim they would have a PR nightmare on their hands if the weather sync was out by more than 2-5 seconds...

I love racing in the rain in a lot of these titles nowdays, some of them have to be offline because of how this is handled online... It'll be interesting to see how iRacing approaches this given their tyre models over the years...

The surprise update is snow until March.

Seriously speaking, I hope they will implement rain to AI racing widely and well. Then there's a chance I will give it a go. And also I am just enjoying the single player experience in iRacing. Any word on whether AI will race in rain when that feature launches?

how could they be so sure of the december release just a couple of weeks ago? it's such a disrespectful move to lie to players who are paying monthly subscription. other than the tyre physics, their corporate structures need a rework as well.

driving in rain could be more fun than in the dry consider the tires in simracing with open wheel cars.... if they get it right you could do this:

listen to the engine sound... no lifting... when sideways.

who cares about rain in a sim.. no one wants to drive in the rain, including real race drivers... make the graphics better, make ffb better and lower your pricing.. all those paid cars should be included in subscription. The game is a big turn off for me.
100%. The only thing i(stealyourmoney)racing excels at is the online system which will become less relevant now that rFactor2 has a decent one and LFM is coming to AC
