RaceRoom - 10 Cars to thrash at the Lakeview Hillclimb track

Lakeview HillClimb RaceRoom.jpg
The Lakeview Hillclimb is a fictional track that is great for time trialling, or even the perfect way to get to grips with a car and how it handles.

Lakeview Hillclimb is a fictional track in RaceRoom that is set in the Swedish countryside, winding through a forest and passing some beautiful lakes. The track has 2 layouts (full run and reverse) and consists of 51 corners over 10.6km.

This track is free and so here are our top 10 picks for the best cars to blast along this fun, yet fictional track.

On the subject of free, you can try out any of the cars in this list on the Lakeview Hillclimb track by finding the car from the store and selecting a test drive.

Number 10

AMG-Mercedes C-Klasses DTM.jpg
AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse DTM

RaceRoom excels in certain areas and 90s DTM cars are one of those. Whilst there are other cars that are better suited to a hillclimb track, a mid 90s DTM car had to be on this list.

Weighing in at a little over a tonne and pushing out 492bhp from its V6 engine, its not slouch either!

The AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse DTM 1995 is one of the most iconic touring cars to ever compete in the European racing scene. The DTM became international in 1995 through the parallel inception of the International Touring Car Series (ITC) with races in Italy, Finland, the United Kingdom, Portugal and France. Mercedes driver Bernd Schneider dominated the season and clinched both titles.

Number 9

BMW 320 Turbo RaceRoom.jpg
BMW 320 Turbo

One of the most iconic BMW race cars of all time, the 320 Turbo from 1980 has stats that can make modern day hypercars squirm. Pushing out 650bhp from a turbo charged 2 litre engine and weighing 875 pounds, the BMW 320 Turbo is a car that takes a lot of skill and patience to master. Once you start to get the hang of it’s rudimentary aero, 80s racing tyres, and massive turbo lag - it’s a very fun and rewarding experience.

This car ruled racing tracks in the late 70s, winning countless races and even more hearts. A feisty 2L Formula 2 racing engine mated to a huge turbo provides what feels like endless power for this lightweight race car.

Number 8

Zakspeed Capri RaceRoom.jpg
Zakspeed Capri

Straight it with another Group 5 monster! If you were a child of the 80s and were into cars, you would have posters on your wall of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsche, and this Capri. With crazy wide box shaped arches, a massive scoop at the front, and flames spitting from its side exhaust the Zakspeed Capri was a dream for most car enthusiasts. Driving the Capri on the Hillclimb track is a a dream come true and RaceRoom have done the car justice.

Number 7

RaceRoom Formula 2.jpg
Formula RaceRoom 2

The FR2 is the closest car RaceRoom have to a Formula 2 car, without calling it a Formula 2 car! It looks like a Formula 2 car from 2015 and has pretty much identical stats too. Driving along the Hillclimb track in the FR2 takes a lot of focus, the handling is immense, but it can spit you out when on the limit, so be warned!

The FR2 is a high downforce vehicle, capable of generating up to 1.7 ton of pressure at full speed. This makes it a very precise, very fast and quite easy car to race at high speeds, but it also makes it a challenge for anyone to handle right at the limit. Smooth, precise and determined is how to bring this one to the top of the leaderboards.

Number 6

Volkswagen ID.R.jpg
Volkswagen ID. R

The ID. R is Volkswagen’s first purely electric race car and won the 2018 PIkes Peak International Hill Climb. It broke the record for electric vehicles and also became the fastest car to ever travel up P:ikes peak. If you’ve never driven an electric car before, it’s a strange experience, and it does take some time to get out of the habit of trying to change gears.

Volkswagen is driving electromobility forward at pace. The racing spearhead of this type of drive is the fully-electric ID. R. The thoroughbred sports car consists of a highly efficient carbon monocoque with lightweight bodywork and a high downforce aerodynamic setup. The two electric motors with a maximum system performance of 500 kW (680 hp) transmit their power to all four wheels.

Number 5

134 Judd V8.jpg
134 Judd V8

The 134 Judd V8 is a beast and this particular car was built by the late Georg Plasa, who tragically perished at an event in 2011 - hill climb events can be incredibly dangerous.

Georg Plasa’s 134 Judd was built for the 2011 European HillClimb Championship. The car is powered by a 3.4-liter V8 engine delivering around 470+ horsepower. Low weight and raw power combination makes it ideal for the HillClimb discipline.

Number 4

Audi 90 Quattro.jpg
Audi 90 Quattro

After pummelling the field the the Trans-Am championship, Audi moved over to the IMSA GTO Championship. The Audi 90 was a purpose built race car and only in shape resembled the road going version. It boasted over 700bhp, it had 4-wheel drive and 14 inch wide wheels!!

Though from 1989, the Audi 90 Quattro has an immense amount of grip, a great power to weight ratio and is well balanced; meaning the Audi 90 Quattro is a fun car to drive.

Number 3

Radical SR9 Judd.jpg
Radical SR9 Judd

The SR9 is purpose built for a life on the biggest tracks of the world. It is a light, direct and responsive drive. This model is powered by a Judd V8 giving it better low end grunt than the more high-strung turbo charged model.

Number 2

RaceRoom X-17.jpg
Formula RaceRoom X-17

Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to try the Lakeview Hillclimb with the X-17 in VR - you have been warned. This car has been created by RaceRoom to combine 2017 Formula 1 aero technology, and combine it with a screaming V10 engine.

This car weighs 620 pounds, with an eye-watering 950bhp. It goes up the hill climb like a rocket and once you have a setup that works, your brain will be baffled by how you are able to take some of the corners so fast!

Number 1

DTM Mercedes AMG C Coupe 14.jpg
DTM Mercedes AMG C Coupe 14

With over 500bhp, no traction control, or ABS, and all the power going to the rear wheels - the Mercedes AMG C Coupe 2014 is a car that demands a methodical approach.

You can’t go up the hill climb with your right foot planted, because you’ll end up in a barrier of tree. As we’ve said before RaceRoom gets many things right and DTM cars are another category where they excel. This car feels intuitive to drive and whilst there aren’t the electronics to keep you on track, the car feels planted enough to feel like you the driver alone are making the most of it.

It’s a thoroughly rewarding car to drive and deserves to be our number 1 choice.

This Lakeview thing is a more or less an undiscovered gem exclusively to Raceroom.
Dont matter if you fancy more roadlike tintops or highpowered downforce formula cars then this track is great.
In a virtual racing car its just like a hollyday trip in the mountins - just on steroids :D
It could be great if some of the other racing games got a licence from Raceroom to copy this fictional racing pearl;)

Are you listening Reiza? :roflmao:

Btw, have you guys noticed that S3 Studios is now KW Studios?
https://www.kw-studios.com/

.:p
There they write: "With renewed backing we’re looking to expand our team and take advantage of the next-generation engines that can deliver the ultimate in virtual racing experiences."
Now waiting for that nice sound inside my head when that penny is dropping... :)
On the track, its beautiful to drive and to look at. Lakeview also is nice. I visit both frequently, just for fun.

Actually one of the two hillclimb tracks is no really fictional, but bases on a real track and landscape. I forgot which one it was, but I checked it some years ago - and found it on Google Earth. Finland, I think, but I could be mistaken.

I love Raceroom raceway too it's a very nice track. Fictitious tracks don't need licenses and can be better than real tracks. Developers can indulge their imagination. Personally, I can't take tracks like Monza or Spa anymore
Monza I get, but Spa? Heresy I say, heresy!:D

Hill climbing is great fun. I would also add the Group 2 Scirocco and the Fabcar 935. I did a virtual bergrennen video for Sim Racing Bible and these cars were awesome! Plus the Karlsson Mercedes is another great option being a hill climb car itself.
