After only officially announcing the project in early June, REG Simulations has released their second dev log for PISTA Motorsport: The team has finished the first few pieces of content and is working on more as a closed beta has been launched - albeit only to a handful of testers.

One of the focal points revealed in the initial announcement was the Fiat Uno de Turismo Pista Clase 1, which has been recreated using laser-scan technology and chosen as a starting point of the Argentina-focused sim due to its relatively simple physics - the little boxy car does not feature any downforce to speak of, so REG could focus on getting its mechanical grip physics right. The Uno has been fully completed since the announcement, even featuring all of the 2023 season's liveries.

The shifting animation received special attention by the team, as they felt that most simulations do not include convincing driver movement for changing gears with a manual gearbox. A minor detail, sure, but also one that helps with immersion and that makes it interesting to see what other small details REG might include in the future.

Alongside the Uno, the Autódromo Rosario has been completed and made available to a small group of closed beta testers. Soon, the Autodromo La Plata is set to follow suit - meanwhile, the day-night-cycle is already functional, according to the dev log. One of the next big steps: Completing the dynamic weather system that is set to be included in the sim eventually. Another focus of the developer's is the implementation of AI, which REG is calling "a giant step for us", as the computer-controlled opponents should be able to provide good battles on track in a realistic way.

As for upcoming content, REG has chosen to tackle the complete opposite of the Fiat Uno: The next car to be added to the closed beta is going to be the Formula 3 Metropolitana, which had already been visible in the inital announcement's screenshots. As the car is lighter and equipped with rear-wheel drive and much more downforce than the Fiat, it allows the studio to explore a vastly different type of vehicle.

Interesting!
It would be nice to have the character's body moving in the car, not just a fixed animated dummy sitting there, but the G force acting on it, you could see it when braking, accelerating, or in an accident, or when passing through a bump!
I hate that every game has a fixed dummy and the shifting and steering is a fixed scripted animation that only reacts to your movement, nothing else!
And of course, it would be nice if even your character had a voice sometimes, reaction to impact.... , of course you can turn it off!
Of course, the track animations are also important: Track judge, collisions, track work...just like in GP4!

Hadn't heard about this title before. Colour me intrigued!

I love the Fiat Uno in AMS 1 – so I looove that we'll have another cute little Fiat box to race around South America in sim racing ;)

Same here. Let's see what series they end up including. I don't know who owns which license now, so I'm eager to see what they can and can't include.

I beleive it's hardly any arg series licensed in any sim. Some arg tracks were/are available on AMS and AMS2, but no any series.

I really hope they can secure licenses from some of the most important series in Argentina, such us Turismo Carretera and Turismo Nacional.

If they get both TN and TC licenses, the car quantity they have to model is not long, but skins, those are almost endless

Ok, my question is: What game engine will be based on?

And I'd wish you could get licenses for TC and TC2000 local series, but I highly doubt it with the ever greedy ACTC Good luck in your project.

With the disappointing continuation of AMS2's lack of MP progress and it's current state being worse the Rennsports BETA MP... Whilst Rennsport itself feels at least a year away from being a year away... I'm left with finding optimism in new titles like Pista...

I'll be following with a keen eye and hopefully can find a way into the BETA...

Actually you reminded me with an idea that I wrote about in RD round about 2017 but it's not implemented in software yet, unfortunately.

HTC developed cheap accurate body trackers a long time ago but no one used them. Why not wear one on your right wrist like a watch so that.. you know the rest, what you'll see in game will match what you do in the reality, for example when you rest your hand on the shift gear stick waiting for the perfect moment to upshift, a moment that never comes when you're driving a Suzuki Alto uphill in Nordschleife lol.

Since 99.9% of sim racers are old school who use 2D flat screens, hardware makers who can include a touch sensor on the shifter-stick.. and you know the rest, when you put your hand on the shaft or the knob you see it happen in the sim (because honestly I feel weird when I put my arm on the shifter on certain RPM while I didn't really move my arm in real life, you see my point).

And while the first counter-argument is gonna be that this will be extremely expensive and unnecessary, I reply that we have seen countless expensive pedal-sets and shifters being pumped into the market with zero creativity or inspiration, oh I forgot, they usually add signatures or send it to shill Youtubers and they make the price higher and much higher. My idea is that hardware sellers might as well include something for the price it won't do any damage. Look at Chinese products that moved from only copying other brands to being creative and market leaders recently and it didn't harm their products or revenue.

Another idea of those I wrote about back in 2017 that surprisingly hasn't been implemented yet although it costs zero money was the following:

The choice to choose to see my steering wheel in VR (for example say G29 or T300), so that I can use my buttons during a 24 hr race for example.

I know that about 101% of sim racers are uber rich people who have Bugatti, Koenigsegg and basically 100 other original steering wheels for all their iRacing cars, but I don't. I don't think that being given the option of seeing and using my buttons in the right layout as in my physical wheel will make my sim an arcade.

If the team keeps the ambitious promises it has stated in this 2nd devlog, we can expect an earthquake! Well the game had been in developpement for 5 years (it serms different parts have been developped and are now put together).

Another year or 2, ot xill be 6 or 7 years of devrloppement, it makes sense.

Not sure about the "beta" name, as the cars haven't been implemenyed and tested. I would rather speak about an "alpha" with first testing of all featurzs (cars, dynamic weather AI norhing has been implemented). On a positive note, all these elements are impoemented in the team's proprietary physics engine, they must have been developped in order to fit in easily.

Anyone is part of the beta testers?

Bundlegames owned the rights to some series until a while ago and they were sitting on them doing nothing else but copyright-claiming everyone who dared to make any Argentinean car or track for any sim. I hope those deals ended and were not renewed, as Bundlegames products were subpar and did not deserve a second look.

Reading through the comments, this and VR support are what I want. I'll never forget the first time driving a road car on a race track. I was tossed around like a ragdoll in that thing, and was physically sore by the end of it. It is amazing how much you move around as a driver or passenger on track, especially if you don't have a racing seat and harness.

Im trying to contact them to offers my help.

Soy Argentino y hace años que espero algo así. Vivo en México y aquí a hay mucho seguidor del automovilismo argento, y estoy rezando que algún día alguien se mande a desarrollar un sim histórico de F2 Codasur.

*I am Argentine and I have been waiting for something like this for years. I live in Mexico and here there are many fans of Argentine motorsports, and I am praying that one day someone will be sent to develop a historical F2 Codasur sim.
