New Features Join FH5 Update in Preparation for Horizon Rally

The second Forza Horizon 5 expansion releases today and in preparation, Playground Games has updated its game. New features, modifications and cars come as part of Update 19, all focusing on the upcoming Rally expansion.

The long-awaited second expansion for Forza Horizon 5 is a matter of hours away. Horizon Rally brings a new map to the game as well as several new cars and races. Countless modifications and rally-specific features also feature in the pack with some already available in game as part of Update 19.

A new Horizon season comes with a new Playlist of events and challenges. But it also implements new features set to transform the game ahead of today's drop. Here's everything you need to know about Update 19 in Forza Horizon 5.

New cars join FH5​

Forza Horizon 5 is the dream game for every budding car collector. Grow your car collection with new and interesting cars. Move from one vehicle to the other, and when you're done with all the cars available in-game, wait for the developers to add new models.

In total, four new cars join Horizon in the latest update, each of which will be available to unlock via the Horizon Playlist throughout the next four weeks. The list of new models includes the 2021 Rimac Nevera, 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, 2021 Lexus LC 500 and 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing. Each of these unlock at 20 points in their given season - Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring respectively.

This time around, the main Series rewards are the 2012 Porsche GT3 RS 4.0 and Lamborghini Aventador J. Both models are extremely valuable in the real-world with just a handful of examples up for grabs, so players are sure to want these legends in their collections. That being said, these cars often appear as part of the Horizon Playlist rewards so another opportunity to win them is sure to come around.

Horizon Rally features arrive early​

Along with the new cars, several features arrive in the game prior to today's Horizon Rally release. Many of these were already announced whilst others will be a shock to players. In rally racing, it's vital to get as much power from the engine as possible at all times. Hence why many racing inventions emerge from the sport, two of which being Launch Control and Anti-lag.

From Update 19, all cars now have access to Launch Control in-game as part of the difficulty and assists menu. Just like TC and ABS, activating it will help racers off the line, but may result in a smaller XP and credit payout. As for anti-lag, all cars fitted with a turbocharger will now have the system as an upgrade option.

Speaking of aftermarket modifications, the latest update also brings rally-inspired bodykits for a total of 24 cars. We are yet to sit down and take a look at them, but from previous Forza Monthly livestreams, they will supposedly feature toughened body parts, mud guards, spare wheels and raised suspension. These 24 purposeful kits are joined by more regular Forza kits from various real-world manufacturers for a quartet of vehicles. To finish on the visual front, Series 19 finally brings the ability to change the tyre profile size on 44 cars. Just like in the real world, petrolheads can now fit stretched tyres to their 100-horsepower diesel Vauxhall Astra.

Night racing in Forza Horizon 5​

To top off the new update, some additions have been brought in to fit the new series' theme, night racing. Dubbed Midnights at Horizon, the series will feature many night-time events, colourful light shows and music to fit the darkness.

First off, players that enjoy creating their own races and challenges in the Eventlab gain access to neon lights as they build beautiful displays of colour. These are sure to look great in the stunning Forza graphics engine.

Better yet, they will look good for longer. For the next four weeks, during the Midnights at Horizon series, night time will last longer in-game as players make the most of their lighting installations. Finally, a brand-new radio station will provide the tunes. Epitaph Records radio station will blast heavy rock music all night long as you fly across the Mexican deserts, jungles and mountains.

This game was good for a couple of months after release but haven't played it much since then and if I do I will play for 10 minutes get bored and switch it off.
Agree 100%, it's amazing how game with so much to offer can get boring so quickly. It just turns into pointless roaming after a little while.

Horizon 4 on the other hand I could spend hour after hour on that with friends racing up and down the motorways. They all said the same about 5 as I did its almost like its too big and too open especially compared to 4 anyway

even more, used to play FH4 on xbox before selling it, and now it's kinda weird to play FH5 on PC using G29, it looks like the game is well supposed to be played with controller.

I've always found it awful with a wheel could never ever get it setup right yet you watch people on YouTube driving it with a wheel and it works perfectly and they've supposedly not changed any settings.

4 imo is probably the best horizon game they've made.
 
my favorite was the 3rd, then 4. 5 for some reason just isnt as fun to drive even though it works with the wheel.

Just like any other open world racing game. Such games lack something very crucial, memorable race tracks.

Can you remember any great track from an open world game? Any corner combination that haunts you in your dreams? The tracks and the entire worlds of those games are completely interchangeable and random.

Everyone remembers Mute City and Big Blue from F-Zero, Trial Mountain from Gran Turismo, Outback from NFS 2, or even the tracks from Mario Kart.

You can wake me up at night and I can still draw a map of Trial Mountain after almost 20 years of not playing any Gran Turismo games. I can still remember every corner and even the music from Mute City or Big Blue after 30 years.

Nobody will remember anything from those open world games after some years.
 
I too am having a lot of fun with FH5. I play offline blasting through traffic and racing against the AI cars. I find if you upgrade the tires/sway bars/shocks the handling is very tolerable.

Was just playing FH on the Xbox and the fact you can basically drive into walls (zero effect), across rugged terrain in a Lambo (zero effect), off a mountain in a Ferrari (zero effect) and just bash opponents out of the way (zero effect), is basically why IMO its a just a throw away game.

If they actually made things slightly realistic + slightly challenging with a decent progression system it would be a far far better experience.

Looking at how popular free roam is in AC, FH could be awesome, but its too blockbuster and far too unrealistic.

Driving a car around a map that has little effect on your experience bores very quickly.

The game was never intended to be realistic, it's intended to have fun. Having a guard rail, road sign or a tree total your car would surely take away a lot of gameplay.

The game has much better under lying physics then most people realize.

The AccuForce uses telemetry data from the game for the FFB and you can surely feel the differences between cars, rear traction loss and weight transfer.
In my SFX100 the driving experience of a stiff Lamborghini is totally different from a buggy on the same track / offroad section.

The rally expansion is a lot of fun. Especially with motion, handbrake and even a push-pull shifter. It's no Dirt Rally or Richard Burns rally by far. But I enjoy the FH5 rally adventure playing through it's career.

it will never have as much playtime as a Dirt Rally 2 where you come back and revisit the same track trying to improve.

Tried the rally expansion this morning and it is pretty fun but again how long will that fun factor last? Probably until one set of races is done then becomes very samey

I found it "boring" that we see the ghost of each others cars :/ Made the whole split times thing reduntant when all start at the same time.
