Motorsport Games to Lay Off 40% of Workforce

Sim racing's greatest soap opera storyline has taken another turn. Motorsport Games plans to lay off a large portion of its workforce.

It is perhaps more than fair to say that there is a very negative perception of Motorsport Games. The studio has been in control of the licences for the British Touring Car Championship, IndyCar and the 24 hours of Le Mans. They have promised standalone titles for each series.

However, Le Mans Ultimate is seemingly to be the only one materialising so far. The FIA WEC/Le Mans game is still looking at a release next month. But even if the game is successful, the reputation MSG has garnered may well prove difficult to overcome.

Now, more reason to feed those negative connotations. The Miami-based studio announces plans to lay off 40% of its workforce.

Motorsport Games Redundancies

In a recent SEC filing, there is a section called 'Item 2.05 Costs Associated with Exit or Disposal Activities'. The text beneath the heading, makes reference to workforce based predominantly in Australia and the United Kingdom.

The filing claims that the studio needs to reduce its operating costs, and that making them redundant would cost $500,000 at most. Motorsport Games reportedly outlined the plans on 29 October and it aims to complete the workforce lay offs in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year.

This revelation comes not long after MSG sold the NASCAR console licence to iRacing. After acquiring 704Games who developed the NASCAR Heat 5 title that MSG published, the company went on to develop NASCAR 21: Ignition and NASCAR Rivals.

One must not forget the many disgruntled employees coming out claiming they had not been paid in time. This included one threatening to leak source code of NASCAR Heat 5, NASCAR 21: Ignition, KartKraft and the unreleased IndyCar game.

If they sacking the aussie KK devs (which it sounds like) I hope they sell KartKraft back to its OG devs cheap cheap so they can finish that game it has such good potential but is currently 60% complete at best, Maybe some good comes from it all.

If my some miracle they manage to release LMU, it will DOA because they will probably shut down shortly after. So we will get an unfinished game (most certainly due to lack of funds) that will never be fixed. It's over.

The way things are going, anyone who can't afford Iracing may as well stick to Forza. Must try to stay positive however AC2 is inbound.

People don't realise that even Iracing or any new piece of software development which tries to actually simulate real race driving on tyres depends on having a competitive market.
Nobody wants to enter a market or wants to invest in something with these kind of headlines.
Keep parroting and meanwhile distinct like the Dodo did....

I was going to get LMU but i doubt i will now. With all the unknown with MSG if LMU launches and is of the same calibre as their nascar game, with all the layoffs i would not be confident that LMU would be polished up prior to MSG burning at the stake.

Horrible for the people loosing their jobs, hopefully MSG go under, other developers pick up the licences and employ the people layed off and develop some good games.
I personally would love a BTCC game that covers Super Tourers to present day, I would throw money at that!

You are basically asking to ditch Studio 397 which are owned by MSG, who happen to have in RF2 exactly what you are asking for...
Take em down!
Really makes a lot of sense dude.

That doesn't count, in my opinion. It was supposed to be a completely different game, not some rF2 DLC.
Correct, but you said ‘beginning’ and rF2 was the testing ground for Indycar (and BTCC) games. When MSG got into trouble, and with the Nascar Ignition 21 disaster, who expected there would ever be a Indycar (or BTCC) game? The LMU game was a surprise to me though, but... it looks like it is becoming an rF2 game with WEC-only content (which if fine with me) and I believe it gets released when it is released.
