iRacing to introduce Clio Cup

Twitter users who follow iRacing's account have probably already seen this pop up in their timeline: a picture of Clio Cups racing, nose to tail, as you would expect it from that kind of one make series.

The reveal is in line with all the recent teasing by the service, with just a picture and no more info on the thing or its release date - although the car seems ready and functionnal from the picture, so we should probably expect a release very soon.

The Clio Cup, through all generations, has always been known as a spectacular racing series with fierce battles, and in old fashioned touring car racing style, a good amount of bent steel after each event. The current generation, with the latest package, outputs 200hp from a 1330cc turbocharged engine - it doesn't use the Clio RS 1.6 engine - mated to a SADEV 5 speed sequential gearbox, and weights 1030kg unloaded. The cars race on Michelin slicks and non adjustable suspension, which certainly explains why you often see their rear ends have a mind of their own on corner entries. Yes, they're still front wheel drive.

This new addition provides more entry level content for beginners to hone their racecraft, but could also attract more experienced drivers who are looking for a quick fix of adrenaline.

You know what? I like this, I think this is really cool. I own a 2020 Clio irl so it'll be cool to finally drive it's racing version in a sim. Although I worry that if it's paid content it'll suffer the same fate as a lot of series in iRacing where it's super popular for a few weeks then it dies down with full races being just weekly.

A great addition! Looking forward to racing them and will treat myself to a seq. shifter for them after a log time of deliberating this is the final push I needed

If it's part of the base content it will be another great addition to go along with the Toyota and formula vee....if not I doubt I'll buy it.
They also posted a early build video of Jerez circuit as well.

Man, i would kill for a clio cup of the older Clios. I always thought they looked pretty, specially the MR clio.
The V6 race car and corresponding series were named Trophy, not Cup. Whole different beast. Different kind of fun.

Introduce Tires management ? Tires Physics ? Rain drop and many more ?
iRacing is a joke , 10 years...... they cannot respond to the principals demands of the drivers cause all the marketing around the game is bullshit .
Lol, someone is salty.

They market a solid multiplayer platform and its what they deliver.

Sure they dont offer what you demand :roflmao:

but 5,000 to 10,000 people online at any given time? something is clearly working for them

My thoughts exactly! But im finding the Vee's and MX5's more rewarding than the GR86. In some tracks that Toyota just sucks...

I won't buy it, like 3/4 of the series it will be abandoned after 3 weeks and will stay in the garage like 80% of the cars I bought...but the clio looks nice!

The Toyota (as well as the Vee and the Miata…and well…slow cars in general) need short club tracks to work best. I had a nice race in the GR86 at Oschersleben two weeks ago. However sometimes the people at Iracing who vote for the schedule choose tracks like Spa, Road America etc for slower cars, which imo does not work quite good.

I'm surprised I enjoy the Toyota that much because I'm more attracted to faster cars.

rF2 has a multiplayer which by now to say indecent is almost a compliment, just to say one ... Doesn't the farce of virtual le mans 24 tell you anything?
Its not as bad as you think and as bad as Le Mans Virtual has made it seem. I have done about 100 races with LowFuelMotorsport in rf2 and have not been disconnected once or had some other server issue. Collisions/contacts also seem fine and they have improved the track limits system a lot recently.

But I dont want to get into a "best sim" discussion, its just that the original post said iracing was not being developed and then someone came in and said "this is the same for other sims" and that last thing is just not true.

All I want is Group C, GT1, and DTM cars in iRacing... we already have plenty of slow/close racing cars arleady... how about the ultra-fast and powerful cars that are difficult to master and sounds the best? :)
