In its most recent newsletter, Straight4 Studios has confirmed that the Lister Storm is the first official car signed for GTRevival. Are more GT1 cars on the way?

As a company emerging from the wreckage of countless development teams before it, Straight4 Studios has great history behind it. Indeed, it is essentially the same team that gave us the Project CARS series and GTR.

It is this original title for the team that plays a major part in its new project. Today, we found out that that major part is not just thanks to its name. The most recent Straight4 Studios newsletter reveals that the Lister Storm GT will feature as official content in GTRevival. What does this mean for the game, set for release next year?

Lister Storm GT

Towards the end of the 1990s, after Group C had very much disappeared and as LMP classes were tiring sports car fans, a new GT class emerged. GT1 brought forth a new age of sports car racing in which GT cars were at the forefront of people’s minds. With the class came a number of oddball vehicles.

The most obvious unique creations were the homologation specials like the Porsche 911 Strassenversion, but the Lister Storm was just as infamous. Whilst not baring the outright speed of prototype-esque GT1s, it went on to garner a successful life in the class’ twilight years.

Indeed, despite launching in the mid-1990s, its true years of success came in the FIA GT Championship of the early 2000s. Racing the likes of Saleen, Chrysler Viper and Ferrari, the V12 monster proved rapid. Thanks to low budgets and quirky design, it soon became a fan favourite. That public perception continued with the release of the GTR series focusing on this age of sports car racing.

A fantastic sounding car with unforgiveable handling characteristics, driving it was nothing if not thrilling. Those unlucky enough to miss this pair of releases in their day will get the chance to experience the car now however. Indeed, it is coming to GTRevival, Straight4 Studios’ newest project.

A New GT1 Sim?

Throughout GTRevival‘s marketing campaign, the game has been all about the development team returning to its roots. With this latest announcement, it is clear to see what they mean – but will this trend continue further?

Indeed, the big question following this announcement is whether or not more GT1 cars are coming. In previous newsletters, fans noticed the cockpit of the Ferrari 550 GTS, so perhaps many fans’ prayers are being answered with GTRevival.

During our interview with Ian Bell a few weeks ago, he pointed out that every car in GTRevival will fit within a box. Whilst Project CARS was an open sandbox featuring anything and everything, this new game will not be. Instead, it will feature several cars of a similar class. Following this latest announcement, that class may well be GT1.

That's not what your level of agressivity shows. You obviously are not waiting to see . Anyway that's off topic and these are your issues.
Ok, I don't remember ever reading that a 'Xar' would be in GTRevival, I don't remember ever reading that 97, 98 and 2000 cars would be racing together, I don't remember reading that there would be no full grids, you it seems are filling in the blanks to fit your agenda, you seem to stretch the truth and review history to suit your negative posts, you called me aggressive when all you posts as far as I see about anything connected with Ian Bell are negative.
If you're so upset with Ian Bell then stop away the threads about him and his, instead of raking up the the same old disparaging comments.
And Yes I'm looking forward to a game in the vien of GTR2 that can be modded and enjoyed.

2 things that for me will make or break this Ian Bell new shiny sim touted to be the one to have:

1. it having a physics engine that actually gives everyone else a run for their money

2. it being open to modding

Knowing Bell, I wouldn't hold my breath on #1.

#2 not overly critical, ACC is doing well without modding.

IMO, a good multiplayer platform, or at least the base of one for something like LFM to do their thing.

And good AI.

Gentlemen, (I'm using the term in its generic sense) I'm really growing tired of the constant repetitive squabbling in every discussion involving the madness engine or Ian Bell.
The same people saying the same things over and over until I step in and ask for it to stop.
So any more and I will delete the offending posts and ban the poster.
I hope I've made myself clear.
Also stop the tit for tat reports as well.

I don't think the RSS GT1 cars are any sort of benchmark physics wise. They are very uncommunicative and feel so stiff they might as well have no suspension, which makes them overly hard to drive, but that's my take on it. Other cars they make are better, but these GT1 cars never convinced me in that department.

The S7R is one of the best cars in the game. The Lambo and 550 are great too.

The S7R around road atlanta is about peak AC for me :inlove: you can see the throttle squeeze to keep it pointing the right way in the second vid! :)

You have your opinion, i have mine. Neither is on topic of this thread, so i wont elaborate any further.

You should perhaps read the Newsletter yourself, then you'd not waste your time making incorrect statements.
When I will see a full season with every track, car and driver without fancy names like Pellali, Dolsche &Co, I will eat my shoes. In the meanwhile enjoy my comments and I will enjoy your (wasteful) faith in the people who claimed 5 times they were doing a decent GTR2 sequel.

Pretty much anything from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s is absolute GOLD. Literally anything. If i was a game developer, i wouldn't even bother with the modern stuff. Nobody cares and it's boring. ZERO popularity. I'm watching GT3 races and the grandstands are empty. There's more people watching during trackdays.
The simracing community has been begging for OLD content and any developer who will satisfy that need, will make some good money. Provided of course there's a good level of simulation.

And... the Goodwood Revival is on this weekend, I'll bet that it will be more packed than the GT3 race at Silverstone* was.
I wonder though if the modding community will be making 2020's GT3 cars for games/sims in 2040 crying that electric GT racing is crap, though hopefully we'll have come to our senses and gone for Hydrogen and or Synthetic fuel by then so we can stop digging up lithium.

*The F1 race was an eye opener though, 480k attendance.

ACC has 5 times less people using it than its 5 year older brother, AC, which is the de facto simulator today. Beamng has close to AC's number. I'd say modding has something to do with it, if not everything. No sim closed to modding with 20-30 tracks at most will ever be able to reach the same numbers.

The mod that “revived” AC was the Custom Shaders Patch… and it’s definitely a one-off scenario. It took someone with extreme coding skill to pull that off. It allows for the free-roam / no hesi mods that are all the rage lately… I’m from a time before CSP and it was getting quieter by the day.

Also, moddable games can thank the endless source of content the Forza series, Gran Turismo, etc provides.

It's becoming harder and harder to visit this site out of my PC with the old and good add block... Now there's a noisy stupid add turning my phone volume up and making me embarrassed... Unwanted videos popping up everywhere consuming data... Seriously.

The site is pretty much trashed at this point.

Pity its the last of its kind.
