There are now two upcoming DLC maps in development for Euro Truck Simulator 2, as SCS Software unveils the Nordic Horizons Expansion.

It’s time to polish up your docking skills, find a copy of ABBA Gold and kit the road – Euro Truck Simulator 2 is heading to Scandinavia.

Following the announcement that a Greek environment is in development in November of last year, now SCS Software has taken the wraps off work-in-progress Nordic Horizons Expansion details.

With the total size of the area is yet to be discussed, it is set to be vast, covering Sweden, Norway and Finland.

From the initial teaser images, we think we can spot the undulating Norwegian Storseisundet Bridge, part of The Atlantic Road – a feted scenic route. Two-wheeled fans may recognise it from the recent motorcycle game RiMS Racing.

Sweden’s E4 is also slated for inclusion, the course running up the east of the nation from Denmark to Finland. Heading even further north, the Lapland’s forests (and presumably Santa Claus references?) will also make an appearance.

Wildlife is said to include reindeer, although we’d also hope for moose representation too – this is, after all, the region that gave us the elk test.

Don’t build your hopes up just yet…

While the early visuals look promising, not only is a release window not yet public, the developers have issued” a stark warning:

“There is still a very long road ahead of us and it may take about two years before we can release this DLC,” reads the statement on the SCS blog.

Expectations firmly in check, we suspect the team will at least take us along for the creation journey.

With Greece and now Scandinavia in active development for ETS2, they follow the recent updates for both the Nebraska and Arkansas DLCs in its other contemporary title, American Truck Simulator.

This thing should be just an expansion for Scandinavia DLC, not seperate paid one. Besides, this game doesnt even have snow without mods, so it all will look just awkward. Im starting to feel that this game is slowly becoming a cash grab, instead of making something like ETS3 they will milk ETS2 for few extra years.

Maybe they add snow, two years in making is a long period.

Unfortunately one of the reasons I stopped playing ETS2 and its modding.

This game looks extremely outdated now with its 100 years old Prism3D engine, the more they keep updating this game the harder it will be to make ETS3, that has to offer a bigger map scale, more details oh yeah and, dirt and CLASSIC TRUCKS, It's kinda hilarious that they try to blind the community with licensing while Spintires has old trucks just fine

SCS has 320 developers but it feels like there is only 100...

I've read somewhere in Steam comments that on SCS's year's summary live stream they've said that new game engine is coming this year, but I doubt that it will change things drastically.

They updated the engine in 1.32 and 1.35, performance was somewhat better but the game still looks like Farming Simulator 2015 at best

Have they added option to turn off turbine sound? I stopped playing cause my tinnitus went wild after one hour of playtime..

That really annoyed me too and if I recall correctly it was trivial to reduce it. I first played the game less than a year ago so perhaps it was added after you last played.

A bit strange to announce a DLC two years ahead of release. SCS had a « Heart of Russia » DLC in development but the invasion of Ukraine put a stop to that, so I guess they had to shift their priorities elsewhere.

These days, I prefer to play ATS, even if by the time their DLCs include the east coast of the USA, I will probably be living in an old folks home! It would be nice if they expanded the map to the Western Canadian provinces, at least.

Why this negativity? I still play it frequently, for therapeutical reasons. :geek:

Its a great game for that but I wouldn't mistake criticism for negativity. We enjoy it too and want it to be better.

I'd love nothing more than to drive my truck in VR but the low performance you get relative the the graphical quality really hurts the experience. Its a similar deal with raceroom.

But seriously? 2 years to develop a small piece of map and moreover to scale? SCS is making fun of the players and their wallets. It's ridiculous that there still isn't the complete map in 2024, there was a Heart of Russia DLC that was absurdly interrupted for "political" reasons and still hasn't been released today. Since it was interrupted for "solidarity" with Ukraine, to TODAY there is still no Ukraine itself! What are you up to? Even today, no seasons in play, so no snow and all that. A lot of recent truck models like the IVECO S-Way are missing. Slow development and always paid content... it's time to think about an ETS3. :(:(

At some point they are going to need to understand that they can't keep churning dlc's as if it was GTA V. Even Rockstar understood that they need to release a new game, the game is dire need of a graphical revamp and physics improvement.

If it takes them so much time to make this DLC then just imagine them making ETS3 in 2050 lol

Guys, it didn't occur to you that most or half of the team is already working on ets3 or a new game engine, I have no idea how SCS works, but it would be illogical for the entire team to work on new maps for ETS2 and ATS and then take a break for a few years, without income and work on ETS3 and ATS2.
I had a year-long break from ats and ets and yeah not much has changed, so there are two possibilities: either they are extremely uneconomical or they are working on a new one.

Oh, another new map for the price of a complete game?
But hasn't Sweden already appeared?
I have this map.
Why not just a newly painted trailer tarpaulin for 15 euros or a new bobblehead or a new curtain or some other nonsense.
Would there be a seat heating option?
I just checked when I bought "Elite on the highway". That was over Amazonia on
November 24th, 2012.
At some point, but it stopped working, there was a BMW 5 Series mod.
That was cool.
I only bought a few Maps when it was available on Steam. I have never and will never buy all this rip-off stuff like paintings and useless accessories.
But some buy everything or shove their money down some Patreon guy or YT video creator.
In addition, ETS2 has the same problem as AC. Too many modders throw themselves at one thing, so that an unmeasurable number of the same mod have appeared and each of these mods is of course the best you can get.
This endless updating of several gigabytes is also an endless nuisance.
The piece of software is actually in a coma but no one dares to pull the plug.
How do i say.
The dead man isn't down in the basement, he's on Steam.
As always, just my own personal opinion.
Feel free to have different opinions but respect mine as I respect yours.
Have a nice and peaceful week wherever you are.

It took you this long to figure that out!;) Just kidding. Yea, it's been like that for many years. They've been milking their truck games DLC's to their cult loyal customers for years! so why should they get busy with making a new up to date next gen ETS3? It's not going to happen in this decade or two I'm afraid.

Also they can't add new gameplay features like seasons, replay cameras, AI Truck Companies etc. because their truck games are made with old spaghetti code. They just can't can't do it.

I stop buying their DLCs for both games about 5 years ago. I got hip to their game and said no mas!..lol

This game is in a huge need of a graphical overhaul, on the scs forum they spoke about works on a new engine, ETS3 most likely not because on that some said that scs than need to make new deals on licensing
