A EuroNASCAR champion is under formal investigation by the series organisers after they were found to have sent racially charged messages in the Twitch chat of our own Elz Indriani.

On the evening of 8 May, OverTake streamer Elz Indriani was live on her personal Twitch channel when she received messages in her chat from a EuroNASCAR driver. These messages included racial slurs targeting Elz's Asian ethnicity.

A statement provided by EuroNASCAR read: "EuroNASCAR has made diversity and inclusion a priority and condemns every kind of racism and intolerance. The organization strives to offer an inclusive environment for the entire championship, partners and fan base. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series will take all proper actions in due course after reviewing the facts surrounding this case."

The driver in question is Paul Jouffreau, the reigning EuroNASCAR 2 champion and current driver for the RDV Compétition team. After making the initial comments, he allegedly switched to the account of the sim racing team he competed for, Unity Racing, and continued the harassment.

Unity Racing have since released a statement claiming that they have expelled Jouffreau from the team, and that the comments made from their account are not reflective of their team's fundamental values. Their founders Thomas Toulemonde and Bryan Talatizi went on to say that they are "actively working to strengthen our internal policies to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future."

Jouffreau himself has released a statement claiming he will accept the decision that the organisers of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series will make on the matter. As of the time of publishing, there is no official decision, but we will update this article once EuroNASCAR do make one.

Unfortunately, NASCAR racing drivers and racial online incidents are not unheard of. Infamously, Kyle Larson dropped a racial slur in iRacing voice chat during an event in April 2020, which led to him being suspended. He has since returned to the Cup Series with Hendrick Motorsports and won the 2021 title.

Then in 2023, Noah Gragson was suspended after he was found to have liked a social post making light of the murder of an African-American man by a police officer. After having his suspension lifted, Gragson now competes for Stewart-Haas Racing.

UPDATE 14/05/2024: EuroNASCAR have announced that Paul Jouffreau will be hit with a two-year probation throughout the 2025 season and an immediate fine. He will also be participating in a sensitivity meeting before the Vallelunga round of the championship from 18-19 May.

That's bad decision under emotion due to political opinions.

What is political about this? Is it a democratic issue? or republican? or socialist? communist?

This is an issue of common decency.

It sounds as though you advocate hiding the problem and ignoring it.

you forgot the (dark) past of OT's mother company. That's exactly why the editorial line is to avoid any political content and comment because it will bring arguments, divisions in a community which has been built around a simple hobby
Just to point out that the policy has been in place on here long before Overtake even existed, so no dark history is being ignored but if you wish to include it then let's be glad that we now live in more enlightened times where these attitudes are called out.

Indeed you're right, these terms.were there before OT took control of RD. And I discovered that exactly.when I wrote some thoughts about the exact same subject, a famous German brands giving some ethics lessons and got my comment deleted (which wasn't breaking the rule, as history is not politics, I was just trying to make people think.about the brands cult in general). But the rule being older doesn't change what I stated. Being acquired by a company which some peculiar history has to raise some questions which had not to be dealt with before.

"Enlightened times" is usually called a "western" (which in fact has no sense, it means richer countries which empires have dominated the world during the last centuries, until this one) point of view ; half of the world thinks these countries are on the countrary degenerate territories.

Again, not giving my opinion there, just showing why the rule has been cleverly made and should never be broken because a contributer thinks his opinion is right and should be the only universal one (isn't that kind of thinking exactly the same than racism?).

Define common decency.
Better, define both terms.
This is an easy one!
Do unto others as you would have them do to you!!

Again for the people in the back. Racism is not a political view. Its hate, plain and simple.

Where I disagree with you and others is in the assumption that the news report was a political one.
It was in response to a story involving sim racing esport at a high level, and I don't recall the author giving an opinion in the article.
While I agree with some of your points this also isn't the place to debate philosophies.

Is it really worth dragging this thread on any further, as it seems to only be creating a divide amongst the membership. It now seems clearly apparent that neither side will see eye to eye on the publication of this article, and the only common ground that people have is that racism is bad.

IMO, time to end it.

This is the usual trajectory. You are unable to make your case without an implicit insult of who you think as your 'opponent'.

For those who deny this is political, I would assert that most people who think as I do consider there is no such thing as 'race'. There is only the human race and any differences in colour are merely down to the necessity to protect skin from sunlight damage. That's the reason those nearer the equator have darker skin and those nearer the poles have lighter skin. That's all there is to it. But there is political capital to be gained by dividing people-it used to be about how much money you had, but that's been somewhat evened out beyond the necessity for conflict. The real racists are the ones who foment these divisions-the only thing they can see when they look at another human being is the least important part of him (see, I'm sexist too), the colour of his epidermis. I'm sorry for this political statement and for feeling I had no choice but to make it.

Another thing. I'm here under my real name. That's how harmless I thought RaceDepartment was. And so it was...but it has been overtaken. Maybe it's time for me to take off.

By comparison then, your case is that racism is acceptable.
You obviously read only what you want to base your virtue-signalling attacks on. Alright. You're a great man and I'm a despicable one. Does that satisfy your needy ego or do you want more? What more do you want, anonymous person?

basically using it means we agree that we are different races, then we are just as racists a those we call racisits...)
No. For me all PPL are equals. I call "racist" the person who split us in groups related to colour, sexual orientation, language, and something very new now, cardinal points and assign to this different groups some bad behaviours.
And this doesn't mean I agree with that person. But I must agree we are of different colours, different sexual orientation, we speak different languages and we live on all cardinal points, AND WE ARE ALL EQUALS, equally good and equally bad.
