ACC GT2 Cars: How Are They Doing A Week After Release?

ACC-GT2-Cars-One-Week-After-Release-1024x576.jpg
The latest Assetto Corsa Competizione DLC released just a week, and the ACC GT2 cars were received well. How are they doing seven days later, though?

There is no doubt: GT3 is the king of the hill in Assetto Corsa Competizione. The class is not just popular in real life, as the focus of ACC shows. Other major racing sims feature them as well, with their popularity hardly seeming to fade.

That and the memories of the GT4 DLC had us wondering whether or not the ACC GT2 cars might face the same fate as the cars of the former. While the GT4 vehicles were also received well, they quickly seemed to fall out of fashion for the majority of sim racers. With the more powerful and less aero-reliant GT2 cars, this would surely not happen, right?

ACC GT2 Cars: Wait For Evenings In Europe

Well, not quite. Competition platforms such as Low Fuel Motorsport or The SimGrid have incorporated the new class into their schedules. But just a week after release, an afternoon search (on CET, that is) for a public server will only net you a handful of GT2 lobbies, as in single digits. However, things change towards the evening, with pure GT2 servers being present much more frequently, even if not overwhelmingly so.

Meanwhile, the number of mixed servers is significantly higher. When joining these servers, you can find varying numbers of GT2 drivers, though the GT3 category still has the upper hand quite obviously. After all, that is what most sim racers play Assetto Corsa Competizione for. Still, all things considered, the ACC GT2 cars are not doing bad a week after release, even though the hype for them may have decreased now.

Could their popularity increase again later, though? It might well be possible. The Nürburgring-Nordschleife is going to be added to the game soon. And the Green Hell is known for its multi-class events with a vast array of different cars. Maybe the hype around the track, which is undoubtedly going to reach new heights, revives interest in classes other than GT3. That could also see the TCX, Porsche Cup, Ferrari Challenge and Super Trofeo classes come alive again.

Red Bull Ring Proves Popular

Meanwhile, the Red Bull Ring, which is also part of the DLC, is a much more common online sight than the ACC GT2 cars. The community was hoping for a new track, and the locations have better longevity anyway. Plus, the track is simple to learn, although hard to master, so it should be satisfying to drive for both beginners and seasoned sim racing veterans.

Of course, it is hard to tell what is going on regarding the ACC GT2 cars in private leagues and events. But usually, public servers tend to be a decent way to gauge popularity of certain content – and it is safe to say that the Red Bull Ring is appreciated on a broader scale than the new cars.

Whether or not this popularity is here to stay remains to be seen. Once the Nordschleife drops, however, that is highly likely to dominate the world of ACC lobbies for a while.

To date, I've only driven two of the cars in the pack...both of the Porsche models.
Though well modeled, I can't say I like either at default settings.
The 935 in particular, pushed like mad.
It just understeers and understeers, so I'll need to take some time to set it up to do what I want.
I do look forward at some point to driving the KTM and the Maserati.
Most report those are much better to drive out of the box.
I do love their version of the A1 Ring.
It is very well done.

The Red Bull Ring is very nice, very F1, I've never hear that much of "track limits, track limits, track limits, track limits, track limits, track limits, track limits, track limits, ..."

Sorry to use this post to ask a question, but in acc my standings app in the lower left corner used to show who was in front of me or behind me relative to track position. Now it shows everything relative to actual standings.

I liked it way better before when in quali you could see how far was the next or previous car. I saw from someone's stream that they had it the way i had it before. How can I change this?
You can change this using the MFD button. In the MFD you can cycle through time relative (time distance between cars) lap times, pit stop set and car electronics.
Go to control settings and see which button you are using, you can change it if you want.

Thanks mate!

I like the GT4 cars, it's the fault of the players who abandoned the DLC early and I wouldn't want the same thing to happen with the equally fun GT2s. It would be a pity. Hopefully there will be plenty of competitions and events to keep the excitement alive!
I did think this when I read people moaning saying there was no GT4 racing. I just thought, surely you guys racing chose to abandon it, so that's why it failed. Personally I just bought ACC on my PS5 as my massively OC'd 2060 is faulty and unable to play ACC in a stable way and I LOVE the GT4 cars, they're simply brilliant! Can't wait for the GT2 cars to come over now.

You have to cycle the display back to the delta. I believe it's cycle hud or MFD in the control options.

edit: just noticed this was already answered.

Won't Assetto Corsa 2, which is coming out this year have GT3, GT4 and GT2 cars? If so, what's the point now.

AC2 will have prototypes of all kind, formulas of all kind, drift cars, road cars, a bunch of tracks and layouts that are no available in ACC, different race rules, setup regulations for all kinda championship, different game modes like track day for example, different graphics, different application of physics, different bugs... and so GT3/GT4/GT2.

Considering we've had absolutely no confirmed information about AC2 other than an expected Summer release and it uses a new in-house engine, this is simply a wish list my guy.

Absolutely not my friend, I just listed what the Original Assetto Corsa vanilla already have. And about the graphics and physics is because AC2 are are being build in a different engine. About dream, I want AC2 to have mod support but I don't think it's gonna happen.

Just a few minutes ago, I finally got around to driving that Mercedes in the package for the very first time.
That is now...and by a significant margin, my favorite car of the five.
It is just pure fun to toss that heavy giant around.
I have only run it three laps at Monza but it feels very planted.
I need to take it to my favorite track (Mugello) later today.
I still need to drive the KTM.
Good job Kunos.
