24-Hour Races, Over 200 Career Mode Events: RIDE 5 Has Launched

Motorcycle racing fans are not exactly spoiled with quality simulations - RIDE 5 aims to change that: Milestone's latest bike racer comes with a deep career mode, tons of customizability and even endurance races. The fifth iteration of the franchise is out now for PC via Steam and Epic, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

While the career mode is not too different from its predecessor, it does offer significant depth, sporting over 200 events that your custom rider you get to create when starting the mode gets to compete in. Players will also encounter rivals that add another layer to the gameplay in career mode. Events are split into two categories, with primary events being necessary to advance your career path, and secondary events being high-risk, high-reward in nature to secure optional bonuses.

Also new is the Sky System that features accurate simulation of time of day (and night, of course) and an in-depth weather system based on dynamic volumetric clouds, taking into account their density and the air and track temperatures to realistically portray changing conditions.

Race Around the Clock

This ties in nicely with the Endurance races that are present in RIDE 5. Events can range from 20 minutes up to 24 hours, and an in-game save system coupled with rewinds make the lives of players who want to take on the challenge of long races a bit more pleasant.

Meanwhile, the revamped physics aim to immerse players in motorcycle racing even more. Visual and physical tire degradation is now present in the game, and the suspension system has been revised as well. At its core, RIDE 5 is still a simulation, and for those who struggle with it, numerous assists are on board as well to help them learn the ins and outs of racing a bike.

RIDE 5 includes crossplay in multiplayer, too - but only on consoles. It is listed for PC as well, but only means that players who bought the game on Steam can compete with those that got it via Epic and vice versa, ruling out crossplay with console racers. At least the local split-screen multiplayer makes its comeback.

Content-wise, bike fans will likely find their Nirvana, or at least something close to it: Over 270 motorcycles from 20 manufacturers are waiting to tear around 35 circuits, including locations that are rarely seen in racing games outside of mods, such as Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport) or Sportsland Sugo.

Those comments in Steam really holding me back even if I wanna give it a try. Seriously, I've put so many hours into Ride 4 (mostly Nord just for fun and laptime) and just have to endure its oversteer-ish physic, not to mention some literally has broken physic with it (I could not remember which Kawasaki was it, but its physic is so damn broken, sparks flying everywhere under it, and it was the only street bike that I did not bring to Nord). But Milestone is just Milestone, I don't expect them to improve anything anyway.

It's understeering in 5. In 4 it was like they thought that the rear tire had zero grip. In 5 they think the front one has zero grip. Maybe in another 20 years, they will make Ride 10 and both tires will have proper grip and won't wiggle around for not reason. I'm tired of Milestone and it's sad that we don't have an alternative.

Still, I just fancy MC titles available today being games - not sims - so my sim expectations are low as a starting point.

As seen from a core sim perspective (as you would do here), one could argue they are several milestones away from the goal.

Sorry, I'll get my suit :p

We don't need more motorcycle sims...we need proper motorcycle cycle sim hardware. I just can't enjoy any game that calls itself a sim with a controller
i agree 100% If they would make them Wheel Compatible, that would be Great! Wheels work better then many think for bikes, and with the Quality Wheels out Now? I have a Fanatec DD Pro and discovered in Crew 2, wheel works well with bikes, with radical wheel tuning. And if developers made the effort, ya figure it would work quite well. Wonder if Wheels work in Ride 5?

Don't forget that we do have a better alternative out there physics wise....GPbikes. It's damn good. SHED load of mods too (though it needs them as base content is minimal).
GPbikes is soooo good. It has VR support too if I remember correctly. Sadly, the biggest problem I have with it is the same problem that other bike Sims have for me. That problem being that real life riding and Sim riding feel nothing alike to me, and it never will using a controller, or even dare I say, a custom bike controller. I don't want to say riding a motorcycle on track is easy perse, but it's far more natural feeling, and easier in my opinion than in a simulator.

I do love all the control options you have in GP bikes. It's just a tad odd trying to manage all of those options using a controller with your hands, compared to using your full body on a bike. I should give it a go again.

My favourite bike game is still DriveClub Bikes. I don't know if you can even buy it now for PS4? It's arcadey as hell but yet somehow is more bike than Milestone's efforts . It's fun.

It also still looks really nice. Those tracks showed some rear imagination.

I stopped here immediately looking for my Steam wallet :D

However, at Steam GPBikes is not tagged with VR Support?

I can live with a workaround like e.g. CrewChief VR plug-ins for various bedated sims. Until then I put up with playing Skid within my Quest 2.

OK we are core simmers and ok we end up with toxic terms, things not going our perfect way, as our natural behavior turns towards :D

But just watched Jake's/GPLap's first take on Race 5.
As always; humble, impartial and matter-of-fact attitude.

(Spoiler: And no, anyone familiar with this channel will know he is not exactly a Forza-guy)

I like it. But maybe I just again end up liking watching GPLaps than doing it (MC games) myself.

As I mentioned earlier here, in fact he is getting away with intelligent use of classic simrig in order to do MC games playable with sim hardware, without it gets a $100.000 100% dedicated mc rig using body weight to steer, it's still better than nothing or keyboard/gameboy riding.

I would (and probably will) try the game for myself, but it seems to me that Milestone can't do nothing right for people, because if they change in one direction, some hate it, if they do it into another, others hate it...
Much better imo to just download mods for gp bikes and enjoy a game with well put together physics.

Except thats not a fully fledged game that i can just sit through and play, plus the Milestone game has better graphics.

"Fizzix" are debatable.

I honestly have not played it In a very long time. I think it may be a plugin that comes with the game files. I don't have the steam version.

Will wait for it to be in a sale at Christmas if not then, next year, not paying £65 for it (yes I will buy it on xbox and play it with controller *crime*)

I tried to enjoy this but it's not happening. I've got a GSXR600 in the real life. I've been to Cadwell on a trackday very recently. This game is wrong on so many levels.

Firstly all the screen shots they release must be doctored photomode or something. Nothing in game or in photomode looks great to me. I've got everything maxxed out as well. It just looked like the previous games. With less bikes.

The bike list is rubbish, loads of bikes from previous Ride games missing. No doubt some DLC will sort this out.....

The handling is...wrong. The worst offender is the braking. It's way underbraked. I was getting away with more on a road bike that I had to ride home so wasn't even pushing on the brakes. It's like there's brake fade built into the handling model. As you scrub off the majority of the speed the slow part of braking is the worst, you just can't brake even though you've knocked off the vast majority of the speed.

I'm convinced Milestone as just taking the p1ss and just release the same game but change some the physics engines parameters about each year. Same with the Motogp games.
