Formula 1 is on track this weekend for the Austrian Grand Prix, just one week after an exciting British Grand Prix.

Last weekend's British Grand Prix was, by most accounts, the best race of the season so far, and among the most exciting in the past few years.

A dramatic start which resulted in a terrifying crash set the stage for a thrilling race which saw several lead changes and gave Ferrari's Carlos Sainz his first F1 victory. Throughout the race there were many exciting overtakes, Max Verstappen uncharacteristically struggling thanks to a damaged car, and Mick Schumacher battling hard to secure his first ever points in Formula 1.

And while F1 fans are still trying to catch their breath after that exciting race, the teams and drivers are already set to do battle once again, this time in Austria.

The Red Bull Ring will be the site of the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, which will feature the Sprint format to determine the grid order for the race.

Ferrari and Red Bull will once again be doing battle at the front of the pack, in all likelihood. Sainz took the top podium step at Silverstone, with his teammate Charles Leclerc in fourth. Sergio Perez for Red Bull battled back after early damage put him back to last place, finishing second place. Verstappen's car also took damage, and the current championship leader was only able to manage seventh place in the end.

The top two spots of the drivers' standings are now both occupied by Red Bull drivers, with Verstappen sitting 34 points in front of Perez. 11 points separate the Ferrari drivers in third and fourth place of the standings, with George Russell of Mercedes completing the top five, despite his DNF in Great Britain.

In the constructors' championship, Red Bull holds an impressive 63-point lead over Ferrari, with Ferrari then holding a 61-point advantage over Mercedes.

Friday and Sunday sessions in Spielberg are looking wet, so there could be some interesting shake-ups in the running order throughout the weekend.

Do you think this race could bring the same level of drama we saw last weekend? Let us know in the comments below.

Oh dear, sorry if that melted your snowflake, but to reiterate - cheering crashes is for underclass yobs, the lot of them. Don't care who they support.

Yes, never said otherwise though I would put it different ;)
I was bit surprised by the near empty Max stand during the F3 sprint race
Too lazy, too hung over, not real motorsports fans ?
See I just make enemy of all sides, no point no value :x3:

I guess people writing off young Schumi were a little early on judgement. Each race he does look better now, already on the level of Magnussen who is definitely a really quick driver. He can become a really top F1 driver, surely better then the likes of Ocon, Bottas and co

Mercedes was the third best car until the crashes in practice.
An in-depth analysis of top speed by Scarbs showed them to be the slowest and exactly on par with HAAS in the race.
It is apparent that car has massive issues in terms of setup variance.
RBR is taking everybody to the slaughter-house this year.
This Championship will be one of the shortest if Mercedes and Ferrari don't get their act together soon.
As to booing.... I hate seeing that at ANY sporting event.
I am not surprised though.
When you look around the World, all we seem to be seeing is chaos and animosity.
There are a lot of ill-content and very unhappy people.
Racing fans don't just show up on Sunday out of a vacuum. They come out of that pool of people.

Verstappen would have cruised to victory even if Leclerc and Sainz had a formation flight. The ease with which Pérez lapped everyone on his path makes it clear the RBR car is superior on this track.
Thank you Ferrari to let their drivers race against each other.

To stray a little, but only a little, off topic... is the Red Bull Ring too short circuit to be holding a Grand Prix? A 65 second lap with only a couple of real passing places makes it feel very much like once the first couple of laps have been completed it becomes more of a procession... or is that just me?

All the hate and booing etc. In F1 Is a result of the unsportsmanlike behavior of the Mercedes team by specially Toto Wolff and Lewis himself last and this season.
Constant crying about everything.

Radio silence by Lewis after last season
Lewis not present at Gala
Flexwing
Flexfloor
Jewelry
Porpoising
Crying on the radio
Etc etc etc buckets full off tears….

Every week there is something.
Most people have enough of it all and show there emotions by this behavior. Is it a good thing? Decide by yourself.

Said it before but we are pretty close in F1 to see pure hooliganism between "fans" like we have seen in football. Put enough beer and a lack of brain cells together and there is an explosive mixture.

It's becoming worse than that I'm afraid. A few people I know are on the tribunes and can confirm this has been taking place, you can't argue this needs to be rooted out immediately :

Ferrari certainly has the speed to beat RB on this track so not quite sure what you're trying to say?

maybe sky sport f1 will now put the blame on the orange army... :roflmao: they should have intervened last week at silverstone.. then i didn't read many messages on (merry christmas) skysport side......while the whole piquet story was there, maybe Lewis should have spoken to his audience there? Sad world we sometimes live in.. the FIA should have taken responsibility at Silverstone it will get worse I'm afraid

Well it's always "a few rotten apples" within a group that spoil the entire group's experience and reputation, unfortunately. There were people on the tribunes calling the offenders to order but they got verbally abused as well in response. I know some of my accquaintances decided not to return to the tribune and rather watch the race sitting on the grassy hills. That's how sour it got apparently.

It's a real shame, but said it before -- those morons aren't motorsport fans.
They are POSEURS.
I'll bet all of them are new poseurs who just got into F1 last year (go figure).

It is going down the sad route of that dreadful game football, and similar levels of restrictions/policing will be required at this rate.

What is the lap you can start using DRS? I saw Hamilton use it on 3 when the commentators on sky sport said lap 4. Might have just bumped a button?

I thought it was two laps after a start or full course yellow/safety car situation. So lap 3 would be the correct time if there were no delays in the start similar to Saturday's sprint race.

Sky sports doing their best as usual. haha

you are clearly wrong who still says the RB is better than the Ferrari it's just not true

Damn such a good shot at a Ferrari 1-2...I feel for Carlos, was having a great race. Now Leclerc complaining about the throttle...hope his car doesn't blow up too....

AFAIK the DRS can't be opened unless the car is inside a DRS zone and the car's computer is given the green light by track sensors for being under a second behind. In other words, there's no way to activate it illegally...it's more likely that it won't open (Like Max earlier this season) than an illegal opening.
