WRC 9 is just around the corner, and one of the new locations set to make an appearance in the game is the New Zealand Rally - with some first preview imagery from the states now out in the public domain.

Set to release on console and PC in September this year, with next gen console release slated for a little while afterwards, the ninth instalment of the WRC game series (can you believe we are on number 9 already?!?) looks to be shaping up rather nicely over at KT Racing - so much so that the studio have decided to release some preview footage from an early build version of the title - and already it looks fantastic.

As per usual, the upcoming game enjoys the official licence of the FIA World Rally Championship, this time taking the opportunity to recreate the 2020 season that is currently on hold, and as such returning favourites such as the Safari Rally in Kenya, Rally Japan and the featured Rally New Zealand.

Roads in New-Zealand are amongst the most beautiful and the most appreciated in the Championship’s history.” tells Benoît Gomes, Lead Level Designer at KT Racing.

Famous for its fast chains of turns and a sustained pace rhythm, along with breath-taking landscapes, Rally New-Zealand truly offers a particular experience. A long preparation work allowed us to replicate, as closely as possible, the luxuriant vegetation, the light and unique ocean views, as well as the road’s topography and surfaces, mainly composed of gravel. We’re convinced that players will enjoy taking up this challenge as much as we did in WRC 9.” concludes Benoît Gomes.

WRC 9 Key Features:
  • 3 new rallies: Japan, New Zealand, Kenya
  • Over 50 official teams and their livery from the WRC, WRC 2, WRC 3 and Junior WRC
  • Over 15 bonus cars that have left their mark on the history of the WRC
  • Exclusive new game modes soon to be discovered

WRC 9 will release on Xbox One, PS4, PC this September 3rd.

Then again I don't care at all about collector cards, online chat, in-game overlays and all that, if that's where the issue is, so that might perhaps explain it. I use Steam to browse for games, buy them, install and update them, and obviously launch them. All of that is perfectly functional in Epic Store as well, as far as I can tell. What am I missing?
That exactly what I'm talking about, just because you can't see issue does not mean they ain't there. People hate Epic for forcing crappy service just to buy exclusives.

Missing features (not up to date some of them are up but not much has change)
https://i.redd.it/f5pgu2ecavp21.png

Video is 1 year old but still very much accurate

Epic road map - how many thing are missing and set to be implemented
https://trello.com/b/GXLc34hk/epic-games-store-roadmap

As for refunding policies that was in general at the beginning Epic did not want honour them just like Bethesda, EA, Ubisoft, etc. Every time new service is introduced we have to deal with that sh** and after a push back they give in.

Well...there's always that LOUD minority. Whatever...

What minority? There are a lot of sim racers that know DR2 isn't a propper simulation... It fails on many aspects, but it's a fun game with fun and challenging physics, but it really is flawed and simplified physics, just like WRC8 is. Although wrc8 has some better aspects when it comes to grip and tyre model, in my opinion.

So I guess people really are hating on Epic Store for missing "features" like 3rd party keys, achievements, big picture mode, broadcasting, curation, forums, Linux support, screenshot captures/shares, streaming to other devices, trading cards, user profiles, user reviews or wish lists, most of which either don't even belong in a store client or have much better 3rd party alternatives.

Well OK then. I guess the massive blind hate Epic Store gets everywhere you look now comes off way more reasonable when I know it's because there's no broadcasting, no literal s..thole like the Steam forums (quite literally the worst place you can possibly ever find yourself on the internet outside of Reddit) or no review bombing every single game released by people who played the game for 10 minutes and gave it the worst review possible because they had a small issue and threw a hissy fit. Forced crappy service indeed...

Good lord.

Let's not argue of facts ok? There's no shame in personal preference. "A lot" who share your "opinion" are still in fact A LOT less than those who disagree. It's a fact. No reason to argue about it.

You really dont know what you are talking about. Its irrelevant that people will find it a proper simulation, It isnt, not near the level of other engines used in sim racing games like Asseto corsa or something of the same calliber.

I love people crying about a game being offered on a different store than the one they like (despite the fact the one they don't like is far more forthcoming to the game developers and publishers). It's so beautifully 2020 level of absurd. It's basically people demanding freedom of choice to be removed in favor of a monopoly because they hate the fact it would take them three clicks to start a different client.

I'm far from an expert, but I believe stores generally work by customers paying for the product on offer.
I'm glad you said all this, sums it up perfectly. Sick to death of hearing it actually. I don't get the problem :|

This is a yearly release. Kylotonn was probably already working on WRC 9 when WRC 8 was released. Apart from that, your list only contains stuff that is typically not updated anymore after a game has been released.
what you are saying is also means that they are currently working on wrc10 within parallel to wrc9 so why would I buy wrc9 I will wait for wrc10. Afterall they will not improve much because Even with wrc10 theyhave same engine with Wrc8 due to this parallel development. If they are improving it why not to apply for Wrc8 either? Which in turns Prove that my list Could be applied for wrc8 too.

and if they released it as dlc other people would complain.

This is why I really stopped even myself from thinking or talking about this topic.

Some people are OK with the same sim staying alive for 20 years while devs won't change (****) as long as the same old thing is printing easy money.

Some people are OK with a new version of the game every year but with only slight tiny improvement to the core simulation aspect.

Some people are OK with intermediate life span sims but with the drawback of wasting half of it in early access.

Best thing is that people can vote with their money, when they see a meaningless DLC they won't buy it.

I just pick what suits me and enjoy things for what they are.

I'd love to meet the people complaining about that
think about it. first you need the base game (wrc 1-8) and then every year/season the game gets updated with a dlc, which of course wont be free as the developers need to make money. knowing how gamers are, many would complain that they have to pay for the new content.

on the other side, needing the old base game to get the newest wrc content, for lets say 2020, would also prevent new players to join the game as some would not like to be forced to buy a older game to play the newest content instead of just buying the newest version as a standalone game.

its the same with every anual sports game.

Back to New Zealand.

I love rally games, I'm from New Zealand, I'm still not going to buy this game.

Given its track record of not being considered great, combined with a required storefront, and what has been disucessed in this thread so far about the current rally roster and game content, its all a big nope.

For the last 30 years i have only played driving games/sims (i don't play anything else) and i find WRC 8 to be the best for fun and simulation so far.

I have played all the WRC games since the beginning , i don't understand all this hate , i have enjoyed all of them , give it a go , i'll think you'll be pleasantly surprised , it's the most enjoyment i have had to date , i think it's a bloody awesome game and can't wait for WRC 9.

Is it perfect , no.

No game is , somebody will always bitch about something with it , just enjoy it for what it is , i do and it's a blast , afterall why do we play them if not for enjoyment ?

I'm sure WRC8 has no tyre model physics...
A game without a chance to read its telemetry is just a lie, they just hide the facts there's no physics simulation behind its visuals

WRC9 seems total the same crap with a few new 2-3 km long stages which should be OK for a WRC 8 DLC only

I have made a request about this issue from
Aaand not surprised again zero feedback .

There are communities developing and selling dashes on telemetry. It is a very appreciated sub sector of sim racing and kyloton idiots just abondoned it.
And yes we are sure wrc 8 is simcade btw. Having no telemetry makes me suspect some dirty tricks behind the scene, using randomization scripts or whatever instead real physic effects.

DR2 league racer here, who tried WRC 8 last night. The WRC teams, drivers, and cars availability is fantastic. But, 3 things are deal breakers for me: not being able to tune out understeer, the steering ratio feels like it was designed for a game controller (IE slower ration further away from center) and no VR. I couldn't care less where I buy the game as long as the physics model is good and there is VR. WRC 9 sounds like more of the same, so will give it a pass, unless the core features are changed. I've read comments like "WRC 8 is more difficult to drive than DR2." Well, hell yes if you can't tune the car to get a reasonable amount of oversteer. Good luck guys. Will read the reviews.

WRC 9 is heading to console and PC this September, and as well as the official cars and teams of the World Rally Championship, the game is also set to include a smattering of historic content too for good measure.

Having dropped the reveal earlier this week, developers Kylotonn Games confirmed nine cars will be made available within the game alongside the official series content - offering a nice mix of old and new machinery as part of their latest rally offering.

An off road racing favourite in the form of the iconic RS1800 MK2 Ford Escort will make an appearance (what rally title would be complete without this legend in the lineup?), alongside altogether more modern machinery the likes of the 2019 / 20 Proton Iriz R5 and VW Polo R WRC.

We still have a long wait ahead of us until the game is made publicly available this September 3rd, so expect plenty more previews and insights into the title as the weeks and months press on.
