thrive submitted a new resource:

wrc 9 care package - reduce dark enviroments in cockpit view plus other shadertweaks see description

- description

The main focus of this mod is to elevate the
rather dark environments when driving in the cockpit.
See screen shots for impressions.

There are a few drawbacks:
- lighter environments (Sweden, etc) can be a bit overbright
- a very slight pop in sky colors when the weather transitions
So you know...

If you do not like specific tweaks please see 'further tweaking'
for disabling specific shader tweaks.

3dmigoto shader tweaks:
- decrease darkness environment tonemap...

Sorry, I had to say this to someone: Isn't it funny that previous game had cockpit cams way too bright and this time they were way too dark? :p

C'mon devs!

Thanks again :D

thrive updated wrc 9 care package with a new update entry:

wrc9 care package v1.1

update 17/06/2021
- slight change to the cockpit shaders there was quite
a lot of reflections on the windshield reduced those
and used an other shader to propagate light in the
cockpit.
Note this causes the glass of the cockpit to become
less visible in 'chase' cam mostly noticeable during
replays...

Amazing the new version! I was to tell you about that the glass in exterior is more dark like in real life. Now is really nice.

But the colors now are more desaturated right?

Thanks.
And yes you have a keen eye.

In broad strokes the shader that, for a large part,
effects the light and color in the cockpit is the same
shader which is used for all the other camera modes
with exception of the 'hood cam'.

Since the game seems to be predominately focused
on the two 'chase cams - close and far' and in those
camera modes the shaders role is to render glass effects
from outside the car this mod rather dramatically alters
the effects of said glass or windshields.

For instance the tint of the glass is almost nullified which
in term effects the view / colors of the environment when in the
car.

This could lead to desaturation of the environment, when
in the car but also under certain circumstances the
environment will saturate (weather conditions play a role).

How ever while I was tinkering I did make a version which
tries to preserve the glass, and reflections to a degree, you
can find it in the folder ShaderCache with the name:
9417a4f62a855840-ps.txt.preserveglass

If you want to experiment you van copy that file
to the folder ShaderFixes as 9417a4f62a855840-ps.txt
if there is a 9417a4f62a855840-ps.bin delete it and restart
the game you can alway use the 9417a4f62a855840-ps.txt
in the zip file to roll back.

In the end I chose to not use it as the standard shader
but that is a personal preference.

Its ok like it is now. I like the more the darker windscreens in the exterior, its like in real life.

And thanks for the detailed explanation ;)

Take care!

I don't know if it's just me but it doesn't seem to work at all. Is it because I run game in windowed borderless mode?

As far as I can tell that should not matter.
How ever you are not by chance forcing the game to directx12?
See: Launch the game in DirectX 12
If so then the mod will not work it only works for dx11.

You can verify if shaders are compiled, as mentioned in the description,
under 'verify' to see if the .bin are generated in the folder shaderfixes.

If you need visual feedback you can open d3dx.ini and goto line 248
which should be:
hunting=0
change this to:
hunting=2
save and close the d3dx.ini

Boot the game and start a race then press 0 (Numpad)
on the top of the screen green letters and numbers should appear.
Now by pressing and holding 'f12' the shaders will toggle between
the default and the modified shaders.
When done revert the d3dx.ini to it's original state hunting=0

On a final note there are cases with time of day 'dawn' combined with
weather condition 'rain' the modified shaders are not so effective.

Thank you very much for your very detailed explanations. It seems to work (checked those bin files). But only when using that 'hunting' mode 2 I could spot the difference. Don't know why but it's really hard to notice. Probably it's because of my old monitor not being that great. Anyways, it works. Many thanks for your help and those shaders. It helps with my fps.
