Would You Recommend rfactor 2 ?

Hi Everyone,
I've played Project Cars, too buggy at the moment. Just getting in to RaceRoom, which I really enjoy. But what about rfactor2. I want to race online more, not necessarily leagues but a lot a various classes to get variety in the cars you drive.
Would you recommend rfactor2 as a sim and also the popularity of online racing.
 
Lol not sure what you original reply was, anyway fair call, however even though not AAA mods,they are all available on rf2, touring car legends is a awesome rf conversion with BTCC from eighties to early nineties including ATCC,DTM and several other touring champs of that era,would love to see update to that,there's also a nice escort rs1800 available, the racing trim abarth is also available in RF2.

As for URD GTE, great mod, however its really limited in AC compared to rf2, for example, leaving "drive feel" aside, its impossible for me to run the new PX with GTE in AC because AI cant handle multi, and a full grid of gte's brings micro stuttering, as well as lack of "enduro" features, and without a dougbt RF2 indy would be at least as good if not better than URD's, and can drive on Ovals.

Wasnt supposed to be a attack on AC, my points more about content, you can still choose AC, as they may be better quality etc, but rf2 ain't "lacking" the content IMO.

Yes, that comment you quoted was before I had mods, I've since found some and enjoy them. I knew that going into it so I knew what was waiting for me. I wasn't bitching about it, just saying that a some of the default content didn't appeal to me much. That doesn't mean it's bad, I'm sure I'll end up using it and enjoys it at some point. I'm loving the Flat 6 and Ferrari Challenge mods right now.

Claiming lack of quality in ISI content doesn't hold up in any court, it is extremely high quality for sure. But of course I can understand that someone could be disinterested in certain types of tracks/cars. That's just personal taste and not really up for debate. :)

I've used rFactor 2 to discover and learn to appreciate a lot of different types of vehicles that didn't interest me one bit before I tried them in that sim. I basically just try to always keep an open mind, also because I don't feel like sitting around waiting for that one car I love, which may never see the light of day in rF2. Better to try out the stuff that actually is available.

Before buying rF2 back in 2013, I thought I'd only want to drive the F1 2012, the Formula Renault and the Williams Formula 2. But then I discovered the GT cars... and the historics... and the touring cars... and the [etc. etc. etc.]. rF2 has taught me to appreciate pretty much any form of racing, while before I was ONLY into open wheel racing.

I wasn't saying they were bad quality, some of it just happens to be of not much interest to me. Everything I've tried so far has been good quality, whether it was my particular flavor or not. Overall I really like rF2, it seems to have just about everything I want in a sim and I even think it looks pretty good. I'm just new to it and I haven't found all the good stuff yet. I'm sure I'll even end up loving some of the stuff that didn't interest me.
 
i had a few hours last nite with the trackday palatovs at one of the mills layouts. After a few tweaks to the controls setup. Changing to default rf1 rotation lowering ratio, brakes and ffb. It was actually a great car to race in a pack of AI. THE only thing thats stumped me is, i can't keep the tyre temps in a good heat, They will spin up to 90s but won't stay there, there always blue. I was driving my a££ off with it power sliding thru most corners. Yet still temps drop back into the 40s. After 10 minutes off racing i finished with tyres in low 50s its was really odd.

So yeah I'm a little bewildered with the tyre temps on that thing. I don't think I've had the same problem with the hillclimb version which is weird.

You're most likely just seeing the tire surface temperatures, are you not? Have you looked at the carcass or core temperatures?
 
Racing in Silverstone against 40 formula ISI is funny as h*ll! Maybe to much Safety Cars but...that's what happens when there are so many cars in the road!

If you can take it, go ahead. I used to play AC and since I bought rFactor 2 I have never touched it again. Also own pCars but don't like it.

AI is definitively great here, and I race offline 99% of time.
 
rF2 is lacking legendary (modern) tracks like Imola/Spa/Monza/Nurburgring etc. and most usable (likable by majority of drivers/popular) car classes such as GT3 (with variety of cars of the same class) made in high quality. Something that could fit (Flat6 and Apex GT3) seem to be in early stage and not in the league of official ISI content quality physics wise (tires?). URD mods are quite good (physics/graphics) but payware so less likely to find servers/people running those. One can say that these classes are "boring", but the numbers usually show they are the most popular in other sims. Enduracers mod is my largest hope now.

It's a bit weird when my favorite track to just lap alone in rF2 is the one ripped from AC *cough* Green *cough* Hell.:cautious:

The Apex GT3 mod, though not finished yet, is of very high quality, both physics wise and visually. However, for some reason it gets overlooked by a lot of people, and it doesn't get anywhere near the credit it deserves IMO.
 
I get really low performance (issues with LODs?) with Apex mod running full grid, car graphics are inconsistent (like made by different people - only Mercedes and BMW have good textures, others look outdated). FFB doesn't feel as good ISI cars. The tires feel very different compared to latest ISI ones. Skittish and very sensitive, easy to overdrive/spin/slide and overheats instantly.

Despite boaty feel and weird (high) grip when sliding/overheating the tires - Flat 6 series appears to be at later stage than Apex. So I expect Enduracers mod to be as good as Flat 6 both graphically and physics wise.

In my opinion ISI cars like C6R GT2, Nissan GTR GT1 or Camaro GT3 feels and drives much better than Apex cars.

The apex gt3 would've used the Camaro GT3 as its base for mod, and tyre model, so they should be very similar, I had performance issues before there big graphics update, and it doubled my FPS after, are you sure you are on latest build, and yeah totally agree with HEX, Apex gt3 got no where near the attention its deserves.
 
After the latest Apex update I've had no trouble running fairly big fields of cars, so big improvements are definitely being made there. FFB and physics wise, in some areas I feel as if Apex is indeed a bit ahead of the Flat6 mod in some areas, if one was to make such a comparison.

Anyway, some of it comes down to personal preference. The bottom line is that Apex GT3 is a pretty glorious mod and a must have for rF2 if you have any interest in GT racing.

Because it's not finished yet, a lot of people including myself don't mess around with a bunch of unfinished work. It's fine that some people enjoy it but it takes away the immersion for me when there is a list of bugs and I don't think it's good for the platform to have unfinished mods being called glorious. I keep reading how great this mod is "now" and how it's improved on every update and so I go download it again and again it still has a lot of problems. You get to the point where you don't even want to make the effort. They are better off not releasing it until it's a bug free (or at least close), league ready mod. imo
 
You could say the same about official ISI content too, that's constantly being updated and is never "finished" as such...Plus they squish bugs!
I do get your point though, there's to many mods released far too early that they're not worth the download, the apex mod however is an exception to this in my opinion.

I like the current Apex GT3 mod. Downsides: the McLaren is a bit too fast for the field, Apex assumes people like to make setups so default setups are too far off (esp Ferrari & BMW), and those default setups hamper the AI (Apex doesn't care about AI, though they somewhat addressed it this release). So... create setups, assign to AI, and have an offline multi-marque race.

Lgel says Apex will address the McLaren's performance in next release, but it won't happen soon.
 
Yes I'd recommend rf2 with the caveat that one should look at the content/mods available. It doesn't see much playtime from me because it rarely fits what/where I want to drive but that's down to preference rather then the content available being bad.

I will also say that the graphics are comparatively bad and it does lessen the enjoyment I get out of the title. It's a much lesser concern though and if you're one not bothered with graphics(I am) then it won't be an issue.
 
My preferences is to first have the very best physics and ffb that's possible in a sim (rF2) and my second priority would be graphics! Pcars is the opposite of my preference though i do get some enjoyment from it when i'am not experiencing many of it's annoying bugs!
 
Na.... Physics, FFB, then sound before gfx. Even bad graphics of today or even the past 10 years' racing games are still WAY better than the best of sound of any racing game. Sound design/engines/physics are still in the 1980s or maybe early-to-mid 90s relative to today's graphics if you know what I mean.
