[WIP] RBRVersus plugin

Welcome to the RBRVersus introduction topic.

RBRVersus is a plugin being developed by pspalo with the help of Karlip. Its goal is to have 2 people have competitive rallies.
In other words, peer-to-peer.
The development is ongoing, slowly, but going.

- More details soon, we'll keep you updated.

1#- We had some progress: basic menus were done and two clients received sent packets. If anyone wants to help us out, please reply!

2# - RBRVersus is reaching pre-alpha 0.1 and we have finalized syncing the stage, split times and car. Currently being added: more track options(weather) and car options(tyres, transmission(now added transmission(2.09.11)). We are not adding setting up the car at the moment. Full focus is on network stuff at the moment.

The only feature of this plugin we know by now is that two opponents may race against each other, whatever configurable time gap between them.

What about
* add-on tracks (reversed etc)
* weather and surface settings
* car damage, service park, car repair
* replays (load, save, play)
* tuning the car
* configuring the rallyes
* persisting the data (database?), network delays and failures

I think such a project will take 2 to 3 years or maybe forever, depending on your skills and, more important, your motivation in the process.

It surely requires more than hacking a few memory addresses which you do not even seem to know right now.

A little progress update!

New submenus have been created and we've gotten connection peer-to-peer in-game. Now we're making more menus. At the moment(28.08), we're making the server menu where both players select their preferences and get ready.

Update.

After many tests, we have managed to sync the stage starts and split times.
We are having some problems though, on my Windows XP RBR installation the memory addresses don't read, nor do we know what causes it. But update is an update, I have added more details to the main post.

Racer_S is who you want to get in touch with for the plugin questions, at one point on his forums he even was mulling over the possibility of having someone else take over RBRNet. I used it for years with friends and loved racing ghost car style against groups of people. The only thing it is missing IMO is RSRBR support. http://www.tocaedit.com

Also the RSRBR guys are working on something as well, worth taking a look at:

The rallyesim guys are also very familiar with the memory mapping of RBR, they do consecutive damage by saving and restoring the memory state between runs of RBR. They are friendly to non-french speakers, so you might be able to find more info there.

Really difficult to get in touch with Racer_S, none of his e-mails seem to work and the validation system on his site is plain broken.

About the french guys, i'll try.

Thanks.
