Windows10 (1903 b.18356.1)

Can't possibly understand whats wrong to have a 2nd SSD with no windows/driver updates just for reliable competitive racing where the only web page open is racedepartment for teamspeak. But to you its like i'm doing bank statements or something in it.

But agree to disagree. Its fine.

.. people staying on Windows 7 and/or not updating their systems give me headache. That's just so wrong... (yeah, I know, MS is spying on you in Win10 and all that...)
But I mean...it's your PCs, obviously, so you're entitled to do whatever you like.
Oh Im soo gratefull that Im allowed to do whatever I like on my own personal PC.
Thank you very very much.
And you are ofcourse very very much allowed to get headache - if you want to.
I mean...it's your head, obviously, so you're entitled to do whatever you like.

Its a solid state drive. Same function as a regular hard drive.

I'm glad you are having a smooth sailing with win10. happy for you.

I manage over 200 computers and servers and I remember having issues with every single win10 installation. My own windows 10 was no exception and missed races/patience because of it.

I'm always amazed when people have systems connected to the Internet and deliberately suppress all updates, thinking it somehow makes their systems more stable. I would have thought after the WannaCry problem last year (which was prevented by an update) that everyone would keep their systems updated without a second thought. I don't like automatic driver updates but it's easy to set Windows 10 so that it only accepts security updates, which I consider essential. It's almost as bad as people who think they don't need antivirus protection - but don't get me started on that.

Hehe good one my good man.
Im running the exact same Win7 install the last 9+ years - without any anti virus program - and with only the few Win7 updates needed to get (if I remember right either Steam or pCars2) to operate (KB2670838/KB2999226).
I have never had any nasties on my puter!

And reading all the stories about how urgent antivirus program is that should be allmost impossible.
Once or twice a year I let an online scanner (Housecall) check my lil puter.
Nothing in almost 10 years.
So... dont get me started:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

That says it all.

But in between the Housecall checks, how would you know? Not all viruses and malware have noticeable effects on your system. Just because you've been lucky this long, doesn't mean that it'll never happen. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine (without antivirus because he thought it slowed things down) asked if there was anything I could do with his system to help him play the latest games. When I ran a virus check on it, he had at least one virus, several pieces of malware and a key logger. He'd had the system for several years so there was no way of telling how long they'd been there. As a precaution, he had to change all of his passwords and replace his bank cards.

On re-reading the thread, there seems to be several references to Windows 10 updates and comments about turning them off. That sounds like a discussion to me.

So the context of blocking windows updates has merit, and in fact it is the recommended practice used in corporate environments (Including my own, through the use o WSUS) where the updates only go through after being vetoed by the admin and are blocked until such is the case. Thats right, they are blocked by default because if a machine stops in production environment, its money being lost, not internet d*ck points in a videogame.

So If by this point in time with all the previous past experiences we have you still allow windows10 to blindly automatically update every tuesday, you better not depend on that computer for anything time/performance sensitive such as league races or production work. Do them manually after a few days with no complaints on the Internet and when only you have nothing scheduled to happen and can deal with issues that may appear.

you guys are acting with too much good faith in microsoft/nvidia/amd to never screw up an update. That is NOT the reality we are living today. I had machines stop at my company because of them, and I lost races at home because of them.

Blocking them until they are vetoed is a good practice, not a negligent one.

But most of us here don't rely on our PC for corporate use. As I said earlier, I only accept security updates and haven't had any problems with those so far. Plus, there's also the facility to uninstall an update if necessary. Whatever you're happy with, I suppose.

Show me a guy who doesn't look at porn and I'll show you a guy who is lieing....

Show me a guy who does look at porn and I'll show you a guy whos had at least 1 virus in the last 10 years.

:D

It obviously just depends on what each of us do with our PC's, me personally I dont use any AV other than Windows Defender, back when I used Win7 I used Windows Security Essentials, but I always have a fully upto date OS, If youve went 10 years without getting any form of Trojan or Malware or anything without any updates or protection then your lucky or your just not scanning with the right tools.

Just because you've been lucky this long, doesn't mean that it'll never happen. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine ...etcetera....
This has nothing to do with luck.
And your friend example just say something about his behaviour on the net.
Hehe or rather mis-behaviour.:)
But I didnt want to prolong this pro/con antivirus thing with my personal strategy to stay pretty safe these 9+ years.
But here we goes.

When Im on some nasty sites I keep my eyes open if/when something strange happens.
Because I know that its very difficult to get worms/virus if you know what you are doing (= what you download/click on).
A good example of this was actually 4 hours ago when I visited (guess it was brothersoft.com) and a message popped up saying something about E.Tre456_worm_Windows.
The funny thing was that the message was initiated from the site itself.;)
But because I know what this lil browser nasty thing is I just closed my puter down - booted the CD with my Acronis restore prog and used 5 min to restore my small C drive solely with Win7.
So using this strategy + the random Housecall scan has kept my PC clean for 9+ years.
And to repeat myself this has nothing to do with luck.:whistling:

Ahh so this means you do get Viruses/Trojans/Worms but you just restore an image and your back to normal.

So does this mean you have a fully clean OS for 10 years? nope it means you have a clean OS until you get a virus then you restore it.

Your right it has nothing to do with luck, it is all to do with you talking rubbish :D

Here we goes again.
When people are unable to use some reasonable arguments they begin calling other peoples descriptions "rubbish" and in other ways get personal.
So if I from time to time get rid of both windows constant garbage collecting and as this time get rid of any suspiction of a worm then Im talking "rubbish".
Hehe it looks like you didnt understand that this urgent worm message probably was a fake because it was send from the same site that I visited.:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:
