Why is iRacing hidden away under "Other Racing Games"

It's one of the best and most popular sims out there. Do RaceDepartment have something against it?

That's an interesting statement.

Have you got any sales numbers or player numbers to back up the 'most popular' statement?

I guess 'best' is down to personal opinion. Having tried it, I don't think it is the best sim out there.

iRacing has their own forum and for the most part its devoid of all the shenanigans that usual goes on around here because you have to be a member to participate.

I do think it deserves its own section but I also don't think many people would participate.

Yep super active indeed. The last thread that was created dates back from August. All the other posts are made by Paul as a frontpage article (huh? but i thought you said we are against iracing, yet we post article on the mainpage where a million people per month can see them).

Last three member threads aren't even answered by anybody. If it's so badly needed on the forum front as a listing then make it your goal to make it really active as the majority of the posts are really from years and years back.

Avg online user base when I am online...usually after 2 am mt the ticker on the bottom right usually shows 3000+ members online min I've seen a few times is 900 between the hrs of 11pm-3am on a sun night.

The website says there are over 70000 members but I am pretty sure that's how many people have subscribed since iracing began.

Not sure how they get their stats but id assume its paid subscriptions logged into the service as nonsubscribers cannot access the service.

On weekends I've seen several races with over 100+ racers signed up....can't say I've seen that amount of participation in my other sims, asides from a random one-off special event.

Looking at steam charts AC is the most used racing sim on steam with an avg. User of 1800
https://steamcharts.com/app/244210
Project car 2 900-1000 avg.
https://steamcharts.com/app/378860
Rfactor 2 avg. Users 400
https://steamcharts.com/app/365960
AMS avg. User 100
https://steamcharts.com/app/431600
Raceroom avg. User 200-250
https://steamcharts.com/app/211500
ACC ea avg. User 300
https://steamcharts.com/app/805550

So looking at those stats.....ya id say it's one of the more popular/used sims on the market ;)

It may not be popular here, but as mentioned it has its own forms with tons of useful info, leagues etc.so really no point posting anything here.

For the most part, any iracing news that makes the front page here was announced already on the iracing forms a day or 2 before......so basically yesterday's news for those that follow the sim :)

i'll second most of that.
however
a) the other games cited are mainly played offline in ai mode, online is just a small fraction of their players while iRacing is basically only played online if i am not mistaken. but for online participation, just like you have shown, i do not think any title gets even close to iRacing
b) publisher forums vs. fan-based forums: i always love to get my info from two sources and rd does a brilliant job by giving me the info a little later for those titles i do not follow on the publisher forums. also, fan forums do have more leeway for different opinions stated, so keep on rd, you're doing fine!
another sidenote: i think iRacing only counts the people who have been active at least once over the last three months, which i guess is pretty fair. most other publishers give you the total sales number but that includes people who played for three days and then left the game, so for current playership, iRacings numbers are probably very valid.

As a member of iracing if I need to discuss iracing content I use their forums as it is specifically for iracing. What is the point of asking anything here, just look at the response you get when you do ask a simple question. Anyway I'm off to iracing now, I wonder who I will be racing against today. Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Mick Schumacher, the legend that is Frank Biela? Not Scott Speed though lol.

As much as i think iRacing deserves more recognition on RD, from what i've seen, most of the attention iRacing gets here is hate. Maybe it's envy idk. I don't think pushing this subforum up to the main Sim Racing Games section would make it any more active.
