Audi has given us a peek at the new R8, specifically showing off the "laser spot high beam" option.
Audi says the laser headlights are only one of many technology highlights of this year's update to the popular sports car, though they are an option over the standard LED headlights, which are composed of 37 LED's to perform all lighting functions.
The laser spot high beams reportedly attain twice the lighting range over the LED system and, better yet, have a cool blue signature. Though this sounds very futuristic, this isn't the first time we have seen the laser headlights from Audi, first making first appearances on the R18 e-tron quattro at the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans, and then in the 2014 R8 LMX.
This may only be a glimpse of what is to come with the new R8, but it is a glimpse that shows the desire to strive for use of the newest and most efficient technologies. With so many changes happening on the latest lineup of super cars, one can expect Audi won't be left in the dust.
