Video of the Day: Joe Nelms' outrageous NASCAR prayer

As the NASCAR Sprint and Xfinity series race at Phoenix International Raceway this weekend, watch possibly NASCAR’S most exhaustive, commercialised pre-race prayer ever in today’s video.

NASCAR often gets a bad rap as too overtly commercial in almost every aspect. Maybe that and the idea that the drivers simply turn cars left are unfair generalizations (they do race on some other tracks besides ovals!), but this clip really feels like a deleted scene from Talladega Nights. Yet Pastor Joe Nelms actually gave this extraordinary service for a NASCAR Nationwide Series (previous name for Xfinity Series) race at Nashville Superspeedway, TN in 2011, thankful for everything from NASCAR’s major partners to his “smokin’ hot wife”.

Tennessean and eventual race winner Carl Edwards said he turned to team owner Jack Roush and remarked: "'If anything happens, I want him to be at my funeral.'"
