V8 Supercars star Shane Van Gisbergen talks about racing at iRacing

The V8 Supercars Championship has gained quite a lot of coverage in recent years worldwide; NASCAR fans in particular will recognize one of its former champions - Marcos Ambrose who now drives the number 9 car for Richard Petty Motorsports. Ambrose won consecutive titles in 2003-04 driving for Stone Brothers Racing and its that team who now employ who many consider to be 'a rising star' of the V8 Supercars Championship Shane Van Gisbergen. Shane has wrote an article at the iRacing blog site about his involvement with iRacing both as a competitive driver and his role in helping with development of the V8 Ford Falcon FG in iRacing.

Shane discusses how he enjoys iRacing when he's not doing his 'day job' and says he finds the competition every bit as fierce in iRacing and says it "some of the best racing on the planet or, I should say, in cyberspace: the iRacing.com V8 Supercar series". He goes on to list some of the drivers he has battled with in that series and many others at iRacing and believes they could have a shot at a professional career if only given the chance by someone. He goes on to mention just a few of the real world drivers also using the service such as NASCAR fan favourite Dale Earnhardt Jnr, Indycar driver Will Power and ALMS and Le Mans driver Simon Pagenaud.

As well as being an active racer at iRacing with 61 wins on ovals and 71 wins on road courses in just under 400 race starts Shane spoke of how he has worked with iRacing to help test the tyre model and give his feedback on the handling. The new tyre model for iRacing 2.0 will be released this August and promises to be a huge leap forward in sim technology in the same way the laser scanned tracks are now.
