F1 2014 Unlearning Bad Habits - Tips?

I decided six weeks ago to take a break from F12014 when I noticed I was just repeating errors on certain turns and they were becoming a sort of bogie.

I am hoping when I go back to it, I will have to relearn the turns, the line, the braking points etc.

I use a hand controller on the Xbox 360, no assists. Any tips on how to approach a relearning would be appreciated. For example - is temporarily using the the racing line assist to learn the line good or bad? I tried that once and found it messed with my spotting braking points.

I'd follow the AI around before i'd use the racing line. I think when you use the racing line you end up relying on it too much and it can make you slow. Follow the AI to learn the lines and braking points. If you're worried about damage from running into the back of them just turn it off.

Thank you for the reply, which I appreciate. I already recognise the racing line assist prevents learning. However I have tended to learn circuits using TT. Your advice suggests following AI. In which mode of the game do you think that is feasible? Grand Prix in Q, using session restarts? Also, do you use cockpit view? My problem is not so much about learning but the Alice in Wonderland sounding "unlearning" of mistakes, which is probably a bit more technical than just the racing line. In posting this I was wondering whether others had experienced the problem of turns previously taken routinely turning into bogies, repeatedly?

Yes, I use cockpit and no assists with MS wheel

If you want to follow the AI it's best done in GP mode, Full weekend includes a 1 hour practice session. Alternatively you could start a race from the back in a quick car. To do that you need to have a quali session in the race weekend and skip quali... you'll start from the back... you can follow the slow AI around or find one in the middle of the pack that's more your speed.

As for unlearning bad habits, maybe turn the flashbacks on and when you hit that spot in the track and get it wrong use the FB to re-do it right away. Waiting a whole lap until you get to that turn again can sometimes be time consuming and I find it makes it easier to make the same mistake over or forget what it was i was trying to correct in the first place.
I can't remember if you can set FBs to unlimited or not... you can in Grid Autosport.

I know exactly what you mean. I use a gamepad and I had no problem in F1 2012 or 2013.
In F1 2014 evrything was fine at first but then I started having problems on some turns like:
Turn 3 in Spain, Turn 16 in Monaco, Turn 4 in Silverstone, Turn 4 Spa and Turn 14 in Suzuka.

I still haven't found a solution, but not playing the game for a while won't make a difference.
I guess watching a couple of videos of others might help.

Thank you, very helpful. I went back to it today. The break seems to have helped. I'm not back to my previous laptimes just yet, but at least my hangup at Vale in Silverstone is gone.

Actually the break does seem to have helped. My hangup at Silverstone was at Vale, as from today no problem any more. Is turn 4 Brooklands? End of the first DRS straight? That bugged me for a while. Seems the best way to take it is head straight for the last marker board, make the turn there in 3rd, then either throttle-steer around Luffield in the same gear or change down to 2nd. Doing the time attack scenario at Silverstone in the 2012 game helped me a lot, but it's not my best.

Turn 4 is The Loop, the second corner before the first DRS zone. If you take it right
you head into the straight at full speed, if not you have a problem. As for Suzuka I have a huge
problem in F1 2014 in the big curve before the long straight ( where there used to be a DRS zone). I seem to either brake too soon or too late .

I'll agree with you, Spain is much harder then before. Oh, on what gear do you take the
Eau Rouge at Spa ? I keep losing time there when not chasing another car.

The Loop is hard, I agree. I stay in 2nd around there, but always seem to have to lift because the car is being pushed out to the right. I have been watching a you tube video of very fast lap around there; can follow the line he takes perfectly, but he is max revs around there and his car seems to be on rails when making the direction change. Traction is the other issue exiting there.

Eau Rouge I take in 7th, flat out in Q; but in a career race often find 6th is needed to get max speed on the following straight. Update: forgot to add that a good exit from turn 1 seems critical to building up the speed needed to take Eau Rouge in 7th gear.
