Todays Update 20/10/15

20-10-2015

Due to car physics changes, it is advised to reset Car Setups and Steering Settings to their default values.

Due to the downshift prevention implementation we have cleared all the leaderboards.

Game:

  • Added new content that will be released very soon.
  • Downshift prevention logic implemented. Sequential gearbox will refuse to downshift if revs are going to end up above the limiter. H-Pattern gearbox will try and engage the gear and fail until revs are lower.
  • Tyres of the DTM 2015 cars will pick up Dirt & Gravel when driving off-track, reducing grip on the affected tyres until they’re clean again. Game will play a sound effect of pebbles hitting the car body that will reduce as tyres become clean again.
  • Added new things in Shared Memory block. Check our forum for details and link to updated github rep.
  • Removed exclusivity of certain Experiences. All content is now accessible and usable in the main R3E.
  • Added a new argument “-disableReplay” that can be added in Launch options on steam to disable replay recording.
  • Fixed an issue where you start in the wrong car when number of cars is more than the visible cars set in options.
  • Fixed an issue with not being able to select each car when number of cars is more than the visible cars set in options.
  • Improved random grid position so it’s now really random.
  • Implemented a new shadow system that improves performance and visuals.
  • Fixed an issue with time left where it was returning the session duration if the session hadn’t started yet.
  • Fixed an issue with drivetrain wobbling out of control when in Novice or when TC is 100%
  • Fixed so the shifts without clutch in semiautomatic transmissions are damage free.
  • Fixed an issue in audio where the coast backfire sound wasn’t stopping in some cases.
  • Fixed an issue with cars behaving jerky in novice mode by smoothening the brake and throttle changes when brake assist is applied.
  • Fixed an issue with the TV cameras where you could see a couple of seconds of a wrong one.when switching to TV Cam.
  • Allowed use of handbrake regardless of track being hillclimb or not
  • Various HUD tweaks on areas where text would often not fit the given frame/field.
  • Optimized motion blur
  • Made changes how frequency and damping are affected by gear ratios, to increase oscillation effect in higher gears
  • Removed oscillation from differential distribution on driven wheels, to normalize torque output a bit
  • Added an option to load opponent cockpits (Video/Custom Settings)
  • Reverted a drivetrain tweak that was done to differential torque
  • Fixed an issue where the order on the left hand side of position bar was reversed.
  • Fixed an issue where the shortened names were being used despite having enough space for it in the position bar.
  • Tweaked G25 & G27 FFB values in default profiles.
  • Fixed DRS animation not working after rewinding in replays.
  • Fixed game video playback issues that were causing the experience menus to get slow and sluggish after a while.
  • Fixed an issue where the players could not resume their lap if they opened the pause menu after session timer reached 0.

Multiplayer

  • Added full name, total time, finish status and lap information such as time, position and pit stop status to race result logs.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred to everyone in the race if one of the participants had a name longer than 32 characters which was exceeding the buffer and causing issues in replay creation.
  • Fixed an issue with players not seeing each other outside of P2P zone.
  • Fixed mp dedi front end not loading properly on Internet Explorer.

I've tried the gt3, bmw m1 and the Acuila cup cars. They are all "plug n play." They feel really good. Great handling. Wtcc 2014 always felt this way too or at least close to it.... Now, ALL THE CARS NEEDS THIS MASSIVE PHYSICS UPDATE ASAP!!!!! I'll be patient though.... Really good and much needed update. Thank you S3S!

okay ive had a quick dabble..
for me yes its improved slightly, the strong self aligning force seems to be tamed now. But could be the fact that steering forcing in FFB menu us default to 50%?!

So I'm not sure really about it, the adac 14 has definitely NOT got the update my McLaren still feels crap as ever!

to add it reminds me (driving the aqcuila) very much of GSC the ffb is similar the AI acts with the same traits, its good but is it the better sim. anyway would like ttry more cars with the new physics for sure.

Audio though is superb! the best of em all!

Well it seems that one mans gold is another mans garbage.
I've never understood these "oh its like a boat" threads, I've thoroughly enjoyed how it felt, but this update completely ruined the feel for me (on the updated cars).
An immense centering force just completely kills the fidelity in the feedback, it feels like im driving a wheel with centering spring rather than FFB, so if those who felt it was floaty before now are happy I think this is proof that we are looking for VERY different feels from our wheels.
Will tinker some with settings and give it some time, but if what I felt in tonights test run persists and is added to all other cars, I'm afraid that's the end of the sim for me.

Just for some who dont know, it helps to lower the last four settings in your ffb settings, engine vibration, brake vibration, etc... I turned off the brake vib. to 0, the other 3 i have around 10-15%. Those settings are kinda canned, dont really need them, since the main ffb provides the ffb from the bumps and curbs anyway.

Oh, the ADACs have the upgrade, trust me on this one. :D
You might want to switch back to the default set-up.
Speaking of which, the default set-ups are now actual set-ups, instead of the one-size-fits-all that we had before.
There are set-ups for the ProCars, ADACs, GT3s and the WTCCs (haven't checked, but there may be others)
Now, as with all SimBin set-ups, these are decent, but not optimal. They are supposed to be used by all skill-levels, so they are by default pretty safe. But they're a good starting point, and they're lightyears ahead of what we had before.
And let's not forget that the update isn't just the physics; I've noticed a massive performance increase as well.

My thoughts on the new physics? Oh yeah baby. :D
Suddenly there's grip, and there's a much better feel for the car (using a G27 here).
The ProCars have become indecently fun to drive, but you really have to switch brake-points.
This thing doesn't really want to stop once it gets going. :p
But you HAVE to switch back to default, both the cars, and your steering. It's back to square one.
What I did was simply delete my G27 profile, switched to the default one, re-assigned the buttons, and got rid of the canned effects. Job done.
But you may want to check the steering settings on the individual cars. The Audi at Sonoma had a steering lock of 15....(as I found out much to my chagrin :D )

@Kenny Paton 'Grats on your newfound High Chiefdom :p
And one small suggestion. Since the Radicals haven't (as yet) gotten the physics overhaul, we might want to steer clear of them for the time being. When switching from the ADACs to the Radicals the difference is....rather pronounced.
So...What I would suggest is that we stick with the cars that have the upgrade, might be the time to give the Silhouettes a run (they got upgraded as well).
And of course, since Sector3 usually releases updates on Tuesdays, then new content the following Thursday, we might have some new toys tomorrow. :)

Thanks Lars, a very good summary and yes new content would be great for next weeks races. Now if only the log in error is cleared I can test some cars.

There's nothing in the notes that state the ADACS have any physics update, and having tested them they don't really feel any different than they did before in terms of handling, I would test some more but I just bought the DTM 2015 pack and the game won't load now

Well, I might wrong about the ADACs (wouldn't exactly be a first), but if they updated the GTR3s it stands to reason that they'd be included.
Plus there is at least IMO a ton of difference in the handling.

As for the servers, I think they're doing some maintenance, possibly hotfixing.
There are few snafus in this version as well, like for example the SP qualifying not working.

EDIT: Typo-correction

sure it is partially like setting FFB effect to low in isi games .. which is pretty much only way to run them

Handling differences might be down to track updates?
Possibly. I suppose it could also be down to the set-up changes.
What I do know is that the ADACs are a lot more responsive and pointy.
The AMG is actually drivable now. Still a beast, but it's a lot better.

It's not partially like it, it IS like setting it to 'low'.
Whether or not that is the only way to run them is a matter of opinion.
Personally, I prefer them off as well, but it's not like that's a god-given decree or anything. :D

well partially cause R3E has more canned effects that old ISI games

final thoughts

For me the physics update isn't what they call a game changer. Like others, cars still feel floaty ffb is a bit numb and I still get the death by oscillation in especially the mp4. Also dare I say it feels a tad simcade than other sims.

I just not feeling it here with rre its a shame as it has a strong motorsport soul just the handling doesn't do this or the audio justice

just to add I did a whole install last night as I uninstalled it many moons ago.

For me this is a new , and i ONLY talk about GTR3 class and BMW M1 Pro Car, the other clases are still a bit nervous floaty (for me) they are not like driving a boat like a first wrote, that was just to wake they fishing ppl up.

I have always enjoyed playing this game but was almost just driving leaderboard challange because of the littel nervous floaty feeling(for me), and i have tried to turn of all of the engine brake shifting like ppl say would help but nope dident help. So yesterday i played like 3h against AI never happend before and ONLY GTR3 class and BMW M1 Pro Car.

They games i play now and compare it against is.
iRacing Asseto Corsa Project Cars Dirt Rally
And like it is now i can turn eny one of these on and i will have a nice time.

Hmmm ... to me WTCC'13 and '14 and ADAC'13 feel way better for me. (G27)
Not as much floating as before.
DTM'13 still feels like driving on ice.

(Only did short runs, no endurance experience here,. but you pretty much notice the difference already in the pitlane...)
