Ford certainly seems to be starting off 2015 with a new emphasis on performance, and its the European sort of performance as opposed to the traditional fast-in-a-straight-line performance which is so common from American sports cars. Along with the announcement of the new 2015 GT and the 2016 Shelby GT350 and GT350R, comes the 2015 Focus RS - featuring a 2.3L Ecoboost engine which cranks out over 315 horsepower and, better yet, all wheel drive.
“The all-new Focus RS is a serious machine with high-performance technology and innovative engineering that sets a new benchmark for driving exhilaration on the road and track,” said Raj Nair, group vice president, Global Product Development, Ford Motor Company. “The RS line has a proud history of technical breakthroughs that have migrated to mainstream Ford vehicles to benefit all of our customers, and the new Focus RS is no exception. It’s a great example of our passion for innovation through performance, and creating vehicles that make people’s hearts pound.”
The Focus RS has certainly been tuned for track performance, Ford brought in the help of rally driver and Gymkhana star, Ken Block, to help ensure every detail of the car adds to the performance experience. The AWD has been tuned for maximum grip and power delivery. A six speed manual transmission gives the driver complete control of that power. The air under the car is managed by the front splitter, "underbody features" and massive rear diffuser. And of course, Recaro seats serve as the centerpiece of the cabin.
Perhaps even better news, this year's Focus RS will be the first RS model to be sold around the world, including the US.
It certainly appears to be huge fun in a small package, and with stunning looks at that. Lets hope this car turns out to be what is expected, as it has some pretty large shoes to fill
