Strange muffled audio issue - video(s) inside

This has happened maybe three or four times in the life of AC here. In the past, I ran 24 CART cars and got this muffled chopped up sound. Hasn't happened since. Only seem to do it with all of the same cars, or in this case, one other.

Each car by them selves sound fine. I don't think its the total number of cars, see and listen to my second video, also it's never effected it in the past.

Master volume is at 85, opponent 60, engine 75. Record quality is 66hz (ultra).
First example bad, second good.

Running out of audio channels? You can increase the limit in one of the ini files, just not sure which one off the top of my head and not at my PC to check. (Someone else may chime in with the answer.)

Already had it to 512 many moons ago.

Maybe too much then. I have no idea about this but I know from other games that increasing the sound channels too far will lead to problems just as decreasing the setting too far.
No clue, maybe try it at 256 again?
It's a very strange bug indeed...

Strange indeed. I guess I'll turn it back to 256 again and give it a shot... At a loss on this one.
