Welcome to the July edition of our regular sim racing modding round-up articles, checking out the best of the best from the world of Assetto Corsa modding.

In the latest of our monthly look into the magical world of mod creation for Assetto Corsa, we have a trawl through some of the incredible car and track releases produced since May by our awesome modding community. From the big and the bold to something altogether different, these past couple of months have produced some impressive pieces of community created mods here at RD.

I would again like to take this opportunity to remind you that in no way do RaceDepartment endorse these mods or take any responsibility whatsoever for any issues caused by downloading these files. The idea behind the articles is rather simple, to help throw light on some of the wonderful community content created for our favourite racing simulators. If you feel we have missed out some "must have" content, or want to draw my attention to a project you are working on, please feel free to drop me a PM or leave a message in the comments section below….

Converted from the original rFactor 2 mod (with permissions), the Lola T70 MkII from @aphidgod is a beautiful piece of content in both look and feel. Capturing the essence of GT sportscar racing in the 1960's remarkably well. A perfect choice for fans of historic racing, the Lola has been completed to an incredible level of attention to detail and is well worth a download. Must have content.

Looks good and sounds great, this Formula One car from the MSF Italian Modding Team is one of the best sounding sim mods of recent times. Feeling incredibly engaging to drive (for an F1 car) and pushing our some ear busting audio, the FW24 of 2002 Formula One fame is already a very, very impressive piece of kit. Improved massively over earlier builds, the car is now at a very high standard.

Probably the only version of this car in any simulation, the e30 Touring has been made to a very high standard. Built from scratch, excellent 3D model and superb physics, the car is an outstanding piece of content for anyone wanting something a bit more sedate and road going in their simulation driving. Outstanding car.

Another rather outstandingly good fun classic open wheel car from @jurik1984, the Estonia 20 is the absolute definition of no frills racing. No sight of such luxury as traction control, DRS or KERS, this is racing as it should be - pure. Low speeds, great handling and sideways action. Brilliant car, just like all his others. Must have.

Appreciate we will get a laserscanned Kunos version in future, but this track is the perfect choice while we wait, and has been sorted to a high level and keeps getting better. Reworked from the rFactor 2 version, the track is quickly building up to a very, very solid level of quality.

Beautiful, well made, graphically high quality and a great circuit. Very impressive mod and an absolute must have for people looking for a great driving experience. Converted from GTL by @WilliamTRiker as a first project, the quality is hard to miss throughout the mod. Super first effort and well deserving of anyone's download capacity. Brilliant. (for added fun, put some fog down and go for a spin in a classic F1 car.. superb!)

Plenty rough round the edges (hence v0.5) but crammed pack full of potential. Awesome track layout seemingly well put together in it's basic form, this will be very much one to keep an eye on in the coming months, even though it is perfectly driveable at the moment. Very promising track.

Finally a modern version of this historic track. @alex meyer has done a fantastic job making a very visually appealing track and appears to have done a great job on accurately recreating the Spanish circuit. With all the necessary bells and whistles included, this is a very, very well made mod and is perfect for lots of the content in AC. Comes in 2 layouts with 35 AI spots, this is a very good track mod indeed. Looking forward to seeing more from the author in future.

Not a fan of my tracks always being a part of the 'official content' debate. If they want the track they will ask for it. Also who says I would even want it to be official. It would likely mean me giving up the model to them and I may not want that. While I appreciate that people think some of my work is worthy of being official I feel there is little need to keep pounding on Kunos for not taking in mod tracks. While it is a shame the consoles can't experience some of these great tracks. Be greatful that us PC users can appreciate some of the great lost circuits of the world. I am extremely thankful that Kunos made an open game to allow modding so I can bring my favorite tracks to life once again.
Thanks again for this track, it's a keeper.

Kunos has definitely done all of us a great favor for allowing this, as I also was able to have a car made (Boss 302) and I'm very thankful it was possible.

The Jordan 1991 is a sweet addition to the era! I'm lovin it. Thanks to ALL the modders for their additions and especially Stefano (and his minions) for giving us a great racing game in which we can enjoy.

Most successful mod game in the last decade at least , and thats saying something ,
yet we still all complain , day in and day out ,
Only thing I would enjoy more is more track development , I came from RF , to AC , because of the scanned tracks , now the scanned tracks are rare .

Great modding round-up.

Anti-aliasing in AC looks pretty good to me in motion... Particularly if you add transparency AA via the driver. Optimisation would be a different matter. If AA isn't good enough you can always try supersampling.

It's not hard to see why the devs have issues with the community on occasion...
It's not hard to see why the AC customers have issues with the AC devs and KUNOS on occasion ... (POV changing!)

As a fan of the more classic tracks and cars - it was a superb month! Thanks to all the modders. Fuji 68, the bridge and the beautiful Lola T70 - this fits perfectly - great fun to drive.
The Nemuno track looks promising, let´s see how it develops.

And perhaps we are lucky and aphidgod will give us a T70 Mk3B Coupe in future...;):)

I play at 4k max settings with AA x8 and transparency in driver as well, the amout of aliasing and shadow crawl is hideous in AC!

I would rather be patient and wait and have 50 scanned tracks in another 2-3 years time in AC ,
Than have 25 scanned tracks and 25 fictional tracks for sure ,

but for example ,
Bridgehampton Race Circuit closed as of 1998 I think or it was 99 ,
but in any case its an older track , simple not possible to scan ,
these tracks are all perfectly fine to put in AC by the devs and make official ,
what I do not agree upon is making fictional tracks that are still open now and is possible to be scanned ,

I do believe in some certain cases exceptions should be made ,
but I respect the decisions either way , all cars are 100% official and 95% of tracks ,
we just need at least another 3-4 tracks per year , or in 5 years at 1-2 a year ,
interest will be gone ,
as there is some major games now producing the goods , with a lot of scanned content.
50 scanned tracks in 3 years??
When was the last scanned track added to AC?
Seems like we would have to wait 50 years to get 50 new tracks let alone scanned, lol
What game you playing? Definitely not AC!

Opening up to modders was definitely one of the main things that made AC progress and get better. When you get talented folks working on car physics, 3d modelling etc you get a lot of input to refine the game, not to mention the avalanche of content for the users to enjoy.

I mean in total , not 50 new tracks at once ,
5 a year for 5 years still only 25 new tracks , there is just no movement with them at all ,
at this rate in 2024 AC will only have 30 tracks and at that there not all scanned :D

Make a thread on the support forums about it, maybe there's a solution for you. I don't have any issues on my system, no excessive flickering, shimmering, aliasing. Just FHD resolution, 2x or 4x AA, FXAA, 2x transparency SGSSAA.

Shadows are an entirely different topic and will always remain a bit of a compromise.

Not my vid because i couldnt be bothered as its a massively commen complaint but just look at the first AC vid i found on Youtube even with its compression the Aliasing is dogs ball obvious !
Goto 2.36 for a prime example but i can see it through out the vid but seeing as you dont see it i found a spot the shows it really well(or badly) .

That is not just aliasing , thats draw calls as well ,
issues with AC is what I believe , is using bad shaders ,
lower settings in the sdk result in better anti aliasing , when you use really high metal shaders like kunos do on most cars its really apparent , and everyone seems to use similar settings ,
My formula hybrid for example , I used a lot lower settings than official content and mods , car maybe should be about another 10% brighter , but I saved maybe 33%+ on anti aliasing issues ,
its not just a win win situation , but the graphics can be tweeked to improve these issues ,
but in saying this back in 2015 I bought a Titan X SC , Watercooled , from using 780sc sli watercooled ,
and there was not 1 single issues with aliasing , maybe due to the 12gb , not 100% sure ,
but really nice graphics cards on AC is like night and day improvement .

I'm using a GTX 1080 Ti , cant get much nicer really !

Firstly thanks for the great article, as a newbie to AC it's good to see a regular recommended article thing rather than downloading mountains of mods off the web to find they don't work/don't look like the screenie/only work with that track on Tuesdays with one curtain open....

As for paying modders? I've modded in the past and i've seen paid modders and it doesn't work - don't go there, you either build resentment in the community over IP (usually down to who made that texture that you used on your tyre/airfilter/seat etc) or you drive people down the ripping route because they see a demand for a car that's in another game and a quick buck.

Complain about bad shadowing from that camera on this corner of that track at that time of day all you want, but as a (as mentioned) newbie to here having been elbow-deep in moddable games, take from me that this (AC) is bloody good, lets not poison the waterhole eh? ;)

well look at 2k and 4k and see what difference there is , still using max settings ,
because if there is no difference then there is something wrong ?

look and report back :)
Mate if i lower resolution or even fire up the PS4 version the problem is laughable , i guess i should think myself lucky to have it in 4k because any lower it is horrible and having my Ti sitting @ 70% and CPU @ 60% i just wish there was a higher AA solution to increase quality and actually push my system .
Being 2017 and having hardware as powerful as we do hopefully the software will start to step up a level . In other genres the GPU and CPU load is getting pushed but unfortunately the only genre i really care about is Sims .
Laugh all you want but i really hope pCars 2 can deliver ! Sept. 22 can't come quick enough .

Clearest and most beautiful I ever saw AC was using my 12gb watercooled titan x superclocked ,
was 1000% perfection , from every angle , with zero shadow issues , anti aliasing , nothing ,
using triple 32% LG screens , ultra maxed everything , gpu running 24% , video 5% ,
with full custom watercooled pc with 5 rads ,
was just stunning , if a 1080ti is having issues ,
I would install windows again and all drivers , it simple should not be happening at all .
