Shock News: Mercedes to Quit DTM Post 2018

Sorry to tell you mate, but your infos are complete nonsens and from 1932. :whistling: The times and the tech of the Hindenburg is long time gone... Winning Hydrogen out of coal or CNG is not the way for the huge amount of H2 needed. Hydrogen will be made with electric energy simply out of water, it will be only the vehicle to transport the energy to where its needed. The EU is running this already for years in a field test in iceland. There of cause hydrogen for cars is made with geothermical energy.

But where getting out of topic...

let´s continue to bash mercedes...:roflmao:
Sorry to tell you mate but I know something about it. Electrolysis of water is not the way for getting huge amount of hydrogen. Some way is not automatically the right way just because EU does it. We are talking about industrial amount for vehicles not local source. Possible future alternative might be sulfur-iodine cycle which is more efficient than electrolysis but this is discussed mainly with discussion about new generation of nuclear reactors and in that future also electric cars will make sense so let's be surprised.

Sorry for off-topic.

German car manufactors have a hughe problem. Dieselgate and other things. They cannot afford huge motorsport programs to their shareholders. The only way is to do the green way, and thats why almost every manufacturer jumps on the Formula-E train! But as long as it is in this way only for promotion and not for the motorsport, it´s nonsense.

The end of petrol driven racing is going to come to an if we like it not that is just fact with the current rate of world consumption its not that far off.
So will that see the rise of Sim racing instead , with the aid of better VR equipment & better immersion , just maybe VR Racing will still be only place where you will find such power plants & the audio to go with them. long after all road transport is Electric of fuel cell based

DTM without Mercedes, seems wrong..
Still, they must have their reasons.
Moving to 'electric' cars is nothing more than trying to cash in on a current trend.
The people here, and elsewhere, that think 'electric cars' are the future, have been completely reprogrammed by mass media.
Bitter pill to swallow, I know.
However you have, and are been fooled.
Where exactly does the power to recharge the batteries within the car, come from?
A power plant.
More electric cars=more power plants.
Spent fuel rods from nuclear plants, so where do they go?
Ask the Japanese people about how safe nuclear plants are..
Gas, oil, coal powered plants will have to be built, everywhere.
Just to feed the saviour of mankind, the 'electric car'.
Really makes sense...
Then we come to the issue of batteries.
Hundreds and hundreds of batteries in one car.
Have you heard of 'cobalt'?
This substance is needed for batteries, no cobalt, no battery.
Simple.
Please watch this video until the end.

Cobalt=Child labour.
More and more batteries means more and more child labour.
Slave labour.
Just to power your hipster electric car.
Makes you feel great, yes?
They want to sell you electric cars, simply because there is more profit in the car for them.
Not to save the world.
Want a cleaner city?
Remove diesel.
Diesel powered cars were the last 'idea' to save the world, and look where that has got us..
Diesel fumes are carcinogenic, but that's another story..
Or ride a bike.
So, Mercedes leaving DTM?
They must have reasons, perhaps one them is to use motorsport to help sell the concept of the 'electric car'.
Companies are profit driven, end of...
The problem with the batteries and child slave labour has been going on for years, and in real terms has not got better, Apple will try to tell you different...wonder why..?

Do your really think things will improve with the rush for the savour of mankind, the electric car?
Think about it, and be honest with yourself.
No shame in being fooled, it happens to us all.
Us 'old' people have viewed all this stuff before. In the 1970's we were told the world will be covered in ice. Global Cooling...
Still waiting...
You need to change all your lightbulbs, the ones you have are killing the world...
A lightbulb.
The 'new' five times the price ones, had mercury in them..
Break them and you need gloves and a mask...
Just to put it in the bin.
Which then goes to landfill..
'Electric cars', just another way to extract more money from you.
At the expense of others.
But hey, they're cool..
So that's ok then...

There was a time industry told us, in future cars will use
-Nuclear power:giggle:
-gas turbines:rolleyes:
-diesel engines:sick:
-fuel cells:cautious:
-and now batteries:x3:
And if you took attention to the post above...
Batteries must be changed after some times.... Guess who will we do "cheap recycling", and where the poisend trash will be put...:(

You are correct. F1 is "moving" that way. And it's having a terrible effect on it. They are losing fans. One of the biggest complaints is that they are quieter and just don't sound like race cars. The cars just don't have the appeal they once did. Perhaps there will be electric this, electric that. Great. But to say that it will wipe out motor racing the way we once knew it is baloney. Fans will go to see what they are willing to pay for. What they enjoy. If most are not excited about Formula E, then they won't go. If they don't go, it won't matter what Mercedes wants, or VW or anyone else. The consumer drives this whole thing. If the consumer/fan wants something, the manufacturer will build it. They will follow the money. Plain and simple. This electric thing is a test. To see how much traction it will get. When it doesn't Mercedes will say, well "We were totally on board with electric. I mean, to save the world. Huh. Well, we're we're the number one advocate of it. We're the best. But you know, it's just not a viable technology at this time." And that's it. Back to petrol cars. They will make whatever kind of car will get them sales. Plain and simple.

Yes but i am talking about 20-30 to 50 years time you see, i'm not acting like a petulant little girl, "whaaa whaaaaa its the end and its all formual e's and Mercedes fault!! whaaa whaaaaa!"......
In the long term no one will really care about it because they will be living through it, as I've already explained motorsport still exists in many forms but it was better before in many cases but the new fans don't get this so the same will apply to electric racing.
Some 12 year old into WTCC won't necessarily be aware how much better it once was for example, to them is it great NOW. We can't view what the fans in 50 years time will be thinking other than some thinking "it was better 50 years ago" but then there are fans now saying "it was better 50 years ago".... see? I doubt you do because you are too busy wiping away the tears and foaming at the mouth in horror that they race electric cars and Mercedes want to have a go.

Whatever next...a diesel winning Le Mans!!!......................................

To the point of dieselgate or whatever it's being called. Most simply read the news and believe what it says. It's fun to destroy VW because they're such horrible people. What cheaters!
Everyone wants them cut down to size now. Ok, well. The truth is (having worked on VW's for years) the problem originated with US diesel being crap quality. The standard for diesel in Europe is much higher. When the diesel VW's were tested in Germany/Europe. No problem. VW never anticipated there being a problem with the US's diesel quality. Once run through the engine, the emissions were too high. Meanwhile, 10's of thousands of diesel vehicles were already sold and on the road in America. So there was no way to resolve this. The only 2 solutions were to a) reformulate US diesel (yeah right) or pull all the cars off the road. So instead of losing billions (the ding dong at VW tried to hide the mistake) and the company lost billions anyway.) But instead of handling this like mature adults, everyone jumps on the bandwagon and happily calls diesel evil and proceeds to crush it out of existence in road cars around the world. Fact is: diesel is extremely efficient. Pollution is actually lower overall than gas and many other forms of fuel. But hey, when you can destroy something, go for it and make yourself a hero in the process. There's nothing wrong with diesel. It is cutting edge and extremely efficient. VW has a 90mpg engine since years ago, but the green earth group (same people that own massive stock in electric) of course say it destroys the planet. In a 2001 VW Jetta with diesel engine I could travel 600 miles on one tank! 50 mpg folks. The car has a catalytic converter and the emissions were negligible. And by the way, diesel is the waste product as the result of refining gasoline. So by using it in cars and trucks we're actually disposing of it in the cleanest most responsible way. Folks should educate themselves instead of accepting all that they hear on the so-called news.

Maybe the Opel Astra will come back? Or maybe a sport version of the Insignia. Since GM is a parent company they can throw a Camaro 1LE engine in it. Or a Cadillac ATS-V motor.

I agree on that so long as they aren't banned, but people moan about current F1 engine noise etc but there are historic F1 championships, but are they on TV are they watched by millions?
Historic racing is alive and well but the big money and big draw is in current gen technology as its used by car manufactures to develop and willy wave etc... Hence Formula E...
Eventually they will be able to go onto real race tracks and then we will see a shift towards that form of motorsport.
In the short term Nico Rosburg to do a few rounds in FE in the Merc?
How long will that take? How long until E-Cars can reach the sustained speeds and power on a race track instead of a biking trail?

I have watched Formula E and find it just a tad bit less exciting than F1 right now. Both, along with NECKCAR are very difficult to watch. It is not all about the sounds (though, to be honest, it is about the sounds too) but actual racing that involves the same cars, at high speeds, at real tracks.

If I wanted to watch cars race on a Karting sized track I would go watch SCCA autocross. At least I would get to hear the snarl of an engine, no matter the HP.

You say E racing is the answer, the direction we are going. I say E-Racing is Beta to another's VHS. Beta and E-Racing came first but another form of propulsion (or video format) will come along that is better. A form that allows for cars to go fast for extended periods of time on real tracks.

How about hybrid hydrogen and electric? Much better, greener choice than strictly electric racing.

E-Racing is merely the political choice being foisted upon us by those who lack the ability to think outside the box, or have dismissed other ideas such as hydrogen because they did not think of it first and it does not have the cache of "Green" electric cars.

Plant some more trees near the streets, research how to make emissions less harmful and be aware of the fact that you can optinally just burn something other than petrol or diesel.

Back on topic: I really hope they go for some kind of Group A-ish racing in DTM now!
