Studio 397 have revealed the first proper preview image of the upcoming Gen2 Formula E car for rFactor 2, and it sure does look pretty...

Formula E has undergone something of a change and progression for this year, releasing a faster, more durable and infinitely more visually striking car for the new season, and that car could well be part of your virtual garage in rFactor 2 very soon - as Studio 397 look to continue their partnership with the ABB Formula E championship to bring out the latest all electric single seat racing car, expected to become available for the simulation in the very near future.

We've already seen a couple of sneaky peak pictures of the car inserted into various blog posting and social media messages, however today is the very first time we've seen the Formula E car up close in rFactor 2, and judging by the picture at the top of this article, it might not be too far away from a release ready state.

At present we don't know if the car will come alongside a new track or two, as did the original Formula E Energize DLC did back in 2017, but with the category having undertaken a significant change for this season, with or without track this will certainly be a very interesting new piece of officially licenced content for the simulation.

Stay tuned for more information as and when it becomes available...

rFactor 2 is available exclusively to PC via the Steam network.

About your statement on the Hong Kong track. I think it was fine. Even sims that are specialised in one area like the F1 series from Codemasters, are missing a lot of detail in the tracks. E.g. the Spa track, which has been part of the F1 series game for many years, is missing quite a few grandstands that are normally there during an F1 weekend. I know, because I have visited the F1 GP in Spa several times over the last couple of years and the big grandstand I was sitting on, does not appear in the game. But, that does not spoil the fun of driving on that track in the game, which applies to driving the Hong Kong track in rF2 as well.:)

"Others aren't doing things properly, so why should we bother ?". Nice way of thinking.

Unbelievable that you even think that is reasonable. Get used to it? Are you kidding me? My hearing is at 100% and I want to enjoy it as such.

I'm sure some kind soul will make a mod of it with V10 engine sound attached to the car. Problem solved.

Sim racers being against Formula E is kind of hypocritical considering that we are the ultimate nerds using electrical machinery (computers) to simulate real cars.

Thanks for judging my 'way of thinking'. I think we just had another discussion here on RD to respect each other's opinion? I would prefer a few more Formula E tracks that are 95% accurate, instead of a company putting all their effort in to make one 100%. If you think the tracks in all racing sims should be a 100% accurate, that is fine with me.:)

Maybe these are the samples they used?
Formula e needs to stop calling the races e-prix, stop giving fan boost, get some big tracks, and put a stiff playing card between the wheel spokes for sound. That would give it so much more mass appeal, also why aren't rockstar and monster involved like in wrx? The FIA has such synthetic fan engagement and track events on their own, virgin mobile, ABB, and that damned swiss bank arent helping. I thought young people would be the target audience of formula E, and not just people with tech jobs or rich parents.

You post on a public forum, expect to have people disagreeing with you.

Where are the other formula e tracks exactly ?

As I said, why bother makings things right, those DLC's are selling anyway.

If you would have read the posts I made in this thread, then you would have seen that that is exactly what I criticized S397 on, with their gen 1 release. However, instead of making the Hong Kong track a perfect representation or creating more Formula E tracks, S397 decided to use their resources to create content like Sebring instead. Which commercially is a logical choice I would think, because more people would buy that track instead of more Formula E tracks. And Sebring was one hell of a track, and also an instant buy for me. However, that decision of S397, will probably influency my decision this time to buy the gen 2 DLC. If that is without the promise of a few more tracks these cars race on in 2019, I will not buy the DLC this time.

Does anyone remember the tight turns almost every track has
Some of the tightest ones where plain ridiculous even for Gen 1 and caused multi pile ups and damage

Surely these will all have to be revised for Gen 2 and open some turns up more
Which case holds up track modelling

edit: Oh yeah, further changes, what about Boost mode, every track will need widening some place
Studio397 / modder supposed to guess ;)

To race street circuits as they do, the cars should be slimmer. That viral longer wheelbase and the wide cars don't lend themselves to it, if they could dimension the cars off 1991-1994 dimensions it would potentially work better. About boost mode, the AI are still not fixed and there's no Push-to-Pass in the game, so doubtfully any such boost mode can be added.

Honest question, not trying to bash, I like rFactor2, but these Formula-E cars...are they taking off with anybody?

I haven't purchased the DLC yet so haven't tried it. Maybe it's fun? I'm just not into the real-life FE at all...no soul in those cars.

I'm kind of confused about the effort and push going into these cars.

I really enjoy these cars. Highly challenging. It's a different approach/mindset to drive them. Isn't that what any true racer wants?

The push is called sponsor commitment. If someone hires your company to use your platform to showcase their brand, you 'push'. Sponsorship 101.

Reality is, it's the future and I think, once the paradigm shift occurs in real life and drivers experience the brute torque and acceleration that can be achieved with electric cars, they'll chase that 'high' just like they have with any other racecar and the fans usually follow. Saw the Pike's Peak VW at a car show recently. Spectacular.
