Studio 397 have revealed the first proper preview image of the upcoming Gen2 Formula E car for rFactor 2, and it sure does look pretty...

Formula E has undergone something of a change and progression for this year, releasing a faster, more durable and infinitely more visually striking car for the new season, and that car could well be part of your virtual garage in rFactor 2 very soon - as Studio 397 look to continue their partnership with the ABB Formula E championship to bring out the latest all electric single seat racing car, expected to become available for the simulation in the very near future.

We've already seen a couple of sneaky peak pictures of the car inserted into various blog posting and social media messages, however today is the very first time we've seen the Formula E car up close in rFactor 2, and judging by the picture at the top of this article, it might not be too far away from a release ready state.

At present we don't know if the car will come alongside a new track or two, as did the original Formula E Energize DLC did back in 2017, but with the category having undertaken a significant change for this season, with or without track this will certainly be a very interesting new piece of officially licenced content for the simulation.

Stay tuned for more information as and when it becomes available...

rFactor 2 is available exclusively to PC via the Steam network.

Also no sim have the complete IMSA cars and tracks either

There must be something somewhere that's stopping this. As far as I'm aware the DPi cars don't appear in any title? Not even the likes of something like Gran Turismo or Forza (which are well known for getting vehicles that no-one else can).

However I agree, I would love to see DPi in at least one title. Yes I am aware of the AC mods but they don't look that great :)

As far as FE goes, The first two races have been pretty good entertainment. Yes the lack of noise is an issue but the racing has been nice to watch. Just wish the tracks were slightly more entertaining and I think it's going to suffer from the same issue that F1 is starting to head towards now. Visiting countries that have very little motorsport interest.

The future of cars is electric, the future of racing is electric as racing exists because of car manufactures....

Whether you like it or not..... BUT, the beauty of sim racing is that a car with a petrol engine is just a bunch of pixels and not real (sorry chaps...) so sim racing can carry on with petrol engines long after they are all banished to the history books.....

Its a nice side diversion but we don't need to be racing electric cars as ALL our sim cars are electric essentially.....
The only gas emitted from my rig is when i fart in my race seat....

No one is saying that sims will ban petrol racing cars......... take a step back and stop taking it all so seriously.....

For example with AC and content manager you can swap any car engione sound, so you could get a FE mod and add 2002 F1 sound bank.......
You have the noise!
But you are still playing with a plastic toy wheel with pixels in your momma's basement... whilst Massa is going round the world racing the future and getting paid.

This kind of comment is the most stupid tho. People want cars in sims from series they watch (counting only current stuff). If most dont watch FE is a bit obvious they wont want FE in a sim and would rather have more cars of what they watch. If the future is electric or not it doesn't matter, we live in the present.

This "it isn't on major sims" only work for mainstream cars. FE is not mainstream despite what they try to sell.
If "it isn't on major sims" alone would sell AMS would be the most played sim ever.
To each his own tho, if you wanna keep on with that excuse you are free to do so. I strongly disagree with that.

Okay, I do enjoy these cars, and if you hate them so much, why are you still in this thread? :)

I don't watch any motorsport, yet I play everything, so this comment doesn't apply to everyone.

No soul? More like "no nostalgia". (What about horse & buggy???) Similarly to vinyl records, internal combustion engines are a pain in the a-- to actually work with on a daily basis. Of course, unless that's your thing - tinkering with them. I get it.

Fun fact: electric cars are faster (maybe TOO fast). In the end, speed wins. I get a good chuckle inside watching Teslas blow away all these souped up v8 monstrosities.

Also: Great work on the car model, rf2 team!

It depends upon the POV of the person. There are those of us who equate race cars with sounds. Sounds that are unique to the cars.

No, I am not talking about P2's that all have the same engine, but at least they have something that all of your senses can enjoy. I did a medical standby for the Arciero Baja Team back in 1999.(I met Jimmy Johnson there as he was testing for Arciero at the time, and before he was in NASCAR. Arciero told me to "Watch out for this kid..." in the future. But I digress....). They were testing in the High Desert (Lucerne Valley) of Southern California and the loop they were on was 12 miles long.

While I could not see the vehicle (Chevy Blazer Vortech) all the time, I sure could hear that V8 pounding through the desert. All the way around the loop.

That is what many of us like. We can follow the race even when we cannot see it. We can shut our eyes and still hear the race.

There is no real sound from a Fe car. No smell of burnt fuel, and no way to see them the whole time.

To many, this is not just "nostalgia" but an important part of racing. To minimize it would, in many eyes, minimize the fan experience. Many of us are not just there for what we see, but the whole context of racing, including sights, sounds, smells and feel. Can you feel the whine of an electric motor? I know I can feel the thunder of the ICE engine.

Speed wins, when you are racing in a straight line, but you seem to be forgetting about cornering too. One can hit 300 MPH on Kemmel, but if one cannot slow down or corner quickly then the speed is off-set by the increased braking distance and slower cornering speeds.

How long does that battery last at 250 mph? The fastest car to race at La Sarthe never finished the race.

I don't understand the "why not more tracks" thing... I mean, rF2 has enough short tracks that are suited for these cars without having to go to the official street circuits. And... that way you can compare the speed of this cars against other formulas or racing cars.

I haven't seen all the races but I've never seen any difference in altitude like on Road American

IMSA mainstream? Only in the US.

There are a lot of people who like Formula E. They just aren't as vocal as you. Probably because we get shouted at for saying that.

The original mod received no further updates, neither to the list of known issues from the release or from the post made in the forum by a developer. The Hong Kong track was poor with the lack of detail, plenty of empty spaces in areas where there should be people or temporary setups, and cardboard buildings.

I can't see this being successful if they don't provide better quality content at launch and actually support it. In 13 months since the original Formula E there has been no update. That's not good track history.

I partly agree on your statement. I also bought the original Formula E pack and thought that more would follow (updates, additional tracks). But it did not. So, I am a bit hesitant when buying this new gen car when it will be released by S397. And normally S397 DLC’s are a day one buy for me.:D

About your statement on the Hong Kong track. I think it was fine. Even sims that are specialised in one area like the F1 series from Codemasters, are missing a lot of detail in the tracks. E.g. the Spa track, which has been part of the F1 series game for many years, is missing quite a few grandstands that are normally there during an F1 weekend. I know, because I have visited the F1 GP in Spa several times over the last couple of years and the big grandstand I was sitting on, does not appear in the game. But, that does not spoil the fun of driving on that track in the game, which applies to driving the Hong Kong track in rF2 as well.:)

I couldn't care less about FE, but if it means that they get more money to reinvest into the development for other things, then so be it. Also, if you want a free Gen2 mod, there's one for AMS you can find on Google.

I will say though, that whoever is in charge of the 2019 ROC that is happening today and tomorrow in Mexico, should've asked the FIA to have a couple of those cars on rotation for the event. They have X-Bows, Buggys, Euro Nascars (not sure if they're returning for this year?) and something else, so an electric openwheeler would've been a good fit, all considered.

thing also is that the Gen 2 cars are comparable to GT3 or faster, so they can go on regular tracks now.

Yes, tracks IMO is by far the most boring part of formula E. I think it is kool that they are real bumpy roads, but all those barriers and tunnel like monotonic atmosphere puts me off.

Looking forward for rF2 Gen2 car, will take it to 60s Monaco, Miseluk, Zandvoort, Mores and much more awesome tracks.
